MARION -- A Marion resident was sentenced and fined on Monday from an incident involving more than 30 dogs that were housed in her south-side residence.
The resident of the 728 Laura Drive home, Krista Williams, 55, on Monday was sentenced to 60 days in jail and fined $500 after authorities seized the dogs, including about 35 dachsunds, while executing a search warrant Oct. 28.
Williams violated the Ohio Revised Code for allowing foul odor to accumulate at her home, Russell said. The Marion Area Humane Society with the assistance of the Marion County Sheriff's Office raided the home after "concerns became elevated because of the animals being confined without proper exercise," Russell said.
Marion Municipal Judge William Finnegan suspended all of the jail time and the fine pending conditions. Williams will be allowed to keep and provide care for three of the dogs and, once her home is determined to be "cleaned-up," will be allowed to receive an additional seven of the dogs and a canary, which also was seized, according to an agreement between Williams and the Humane Society.
She also must execute a surrender form for the remaining canines and enroll and complete counseling "to the court's satisfaction" as to her mental health and capabilities.
