Dunno if any of you have seen "Hurly-Burly"... |
|
it's almost over now on FX....but, man. Just a great movie. So well-acted. So well-directed. Just an awesome script.
So relatable for Generation X, too.
I look at these people and I see my friends. My "friends," I should say.
It's so depressing, but it actually has a very subtle, hopeful ending.

2. These people just tear themselves apart. They've got nothing better |
|
to do.
And at the same time they're so ignorant about people. This hierarchy shit..."background"....I see one friend of mine, my supposed best friend (not really, but somehow we present ourselves that way), constantly talking like this. "You just know that you're better than so-and-so yadda yadda yadda." This guy is a perpetual person-user, druggee, kleptomaniac, bullshitter.
And it's funny, because I'm the type that thinks I'm better than everyone in my own mind. But I don't ACT like that...in fact, I treat people with as much respect as I can- they deserve it just for being people, no matter who they are.
God, I just hate my friends. I saw them down in Florida when I was doing some GOTV and they just pissed me off so bad.

4. I just looked it up... |

Apparently it's someone named Anthony Drazan....
But Penn is the lead role. Out of this world performance. I've truly never seen anything like it.

5. you should pick up a copy of the play |
|
David Rabe wrote Hurly Burly and Those The River Keeps focusing on the same characters. They can be performed on their own or blended together. Those The River Keeps focuses more on the Chaz Palminteri character, whatever his name was.
I thought the film adapation was really well done.
