Does anyone here juice their fruits & veggies?
After years of putting crap in my body my 41 year old stomach can no longer handle junk food and I've always hated vegetables (I do like fruit). I was watching an infomercial about Jack Lanne's juicer and the health & healing benefits of juicing fruits and vegetables so I bought the thing. Well it arrived and I just bought a bag full of fruits & veggies. My questions are:

What is a good combination of veggies to start with?

And -

For those of you that may have abused your body over the years and decided to juice for health & healing, how long did it take before you start feeling the benefits?

Thanks

1. carrots and oranges are a great combo
banana, pineapple and oranges as well...
My personal opinion is that a diet based on Juicing alone is not going to cut it.. It's a great addition but you need protein in there somewhere and quite a few other things as well...

2. I don't own a juicer, but am thinking about buying one.
In the meantime, I drink lots of V-8.

5. since we are on the topic of health
I always recommend that people avoid high fructose corn syrup at all costs..which is difficult as its such a common ingrediant..from what I have read corn syrup has played the largest role in the dramatic increase of the last 20 years in diabetes.. My husband and I cut it from our diets in an attempt to increase our energy (we were feeling sluggish and this can relate to blood sugar swings so we gave it a shot). It worked. The other positive was my husband dropped 15 pounds in 5 months and he changed nothing else.. I also lost weight (which was not good for me as I am already too thin) so I have been gorging on cheese...

4. Oh no - I haven't stopped eating meat.

I needed to add veggies to my diet. I hate the taste of them cooked so I chose juicing because I can grind up all those vegetables I learned to hate and drink it down in one shot. As far as meat is goes, I'm now eating leaner cuts of meat and cutting back a little on red meat.

6. Fish is great as well but you have to watch
out for mercury (especially in light of bush's failure to regulate emmissions....asshole)

3. Not sure what the difference between a "juicer" and blender is...
...but with my blender, I love mixing fresh papaya with ice and some apple juice. WOW!!!

8. I think the difference is
that you can put whole fruits including rinds, stems and seeds into a juicer to extract juices and vitamins from them and then the juicer separates the left-over rinds into another container for storage or disposal.

9. Sounds good...
...there's a type of papaya as small as a large pear. I'd love to have something where I could just drop it in without having to peel it and scoop out the seeds, beforehand.

I wonder if a juicer could handle a mango with that skin and big pit they have?

10. I know that the juicer that I purchased
can take most seeds but suggests not to grind larger pits (peaches, mangos, etc)because they can damage the blade.

7. I owned a juicer
too expensive to operate. I could get more juice in a bottle that cost $4 than with $10 of produce. I threw mine out.
