Ten years ago, Ryan Root was the toast of Chatham Glenbard High, a small-town hero dating a local girl and destined for big things.
But his high school sweetheart went on to marry another Chatham Glenbard star, Jayson Werth, who made it to the big leagues and is a Los Angeles Dodger.
Now the guy who got the girl is suing the guy who didn't, accusing him of spreading vicious lies about him and his wife.
The lawsuit claims Root has inundated Werth's family and friends with letters since 2001, alleging the ballplayer is unfaithful to his wife Julia and doesn't deserve to be married to her.
The letters threatened to expose pictures and videotapes of Werth having sex with other woman -- one of whom was pregnant with his child, the lawsuit states.
"He's a deceitful, egotistical ass---- who uses his lies and professional career to sleep with young women," one letter reads, according to the lawsuit. "I've spent nearly $20,000 documenting every move this sleazeball has made."
