Here are some of my favorites that somewhat fill the void - Galactic, moe., Wilco, Mofro, Dirty Dozen Brass Band - and of course, Medeski, Martin & Wood.

I believe they've played in my area quite a few times. And I've heard good things.

they bought a huge ranch outside of columbus, just so they could do whatever the hell they wanted at their concerts. its a three-day-long concert/party/camping trip, called Hookahville

36. the atmosphere changed, just wasn't the same.. |
|
nothing negative, i think there just was a different attitude with younger fans. I'm not the oldest fan but i went to a couple of shows back in 93-94 and they defiantly were different then the shows i went to post hiatus. things peaked in Florida for new years and were on there way down after that. Kind of like an acid trip (starts out weird then gets weirder then you peak, then its just a wind down till the end)
This is all just my personal opinion.

I would tell him that if he doesn't quit smoking pot, I'm going to have him arrested. But then I'm a hardass. Good luck.

15. Possession, or illegal drug use in my house. |
|
I'd be going through his stuff every day, and when I found pot, I'd call the police.
If he dared to smoke at home I'd have him arrested for illegal drug use.
I'd try very very hard to get him busted because then, in many states, he will lose his driver's license until he's 21. That's a nice deterrent for most teenagers.
If I had any hint that he's a daily user, or uses any other drugs, I'd commit him to a 30-day rehab facility with long-term aftercare.
But then, I'm a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I wouldn't fuck around with this stuff. But that's just me.

|
Do you want to save your son or not? I think "whatever it takes" should be your rule, not your exception.
But if you think that's ridiculous, you obviously don't have as much of a problem as I would with your son putting illegal drugs into his body.

no, you just decided to butt in to something that is not your business. Nothing worse than a former "alcoholic" being a self-righteous asshole now.

32. Your original question, if I remember correctly, was asking |
|
for suggestions. I can't double-check that, since you deleted the post.
I gave you suggestions.
You ASKED me to butt in. What else would "Do you have any suggestions" mean?
I am not self-righteous. I almost died from my addiction before I got clean and sober and so do most people under 30 who are addicts. The only reason I am concerned about your son is because I know, probably more accurately than you do, what he's going through.
If it makes you feel better to say I'm self-righteous and call me names, go ahead. But you are doing your son a tremendous disservice by not addressing this.

I know what drug addiction can do. I won't back down because it's dangerous. If more people did whatever it took to take care of their children, there wouldn't be so many OD's.

13. interpretation is everything |
|
some of the greatest musicians of all time simply interpret the works of others. Find me a classical pianist, violinist or cellist who writes their own stuff. Yo-Yo Ma is brilliant, but he uses other people's material, with his own spin on it. Writing music and performing Music are completely different skill sets, and both can be brilliant in their own way. What is our obsession with people having to write their own music?
Actually, Phish did write a lot of stuff, most of their performances would include one or two covers in a three hour show. And they could be sloppy and ugly, but when it clicked, when all the guys were playing together, going in different directions together, it was a thing of beauty. think of a symphony, with every instrument playing their own interpretation of the song. In the hands of less skillful musicians it is a cacophony, but in the hands of a brilliant team, the whole is truely greater than the sum of the parts.
frankly, I grew weary of Phish as I got older, I could no longer dedicate hours a week to listening to music that needs multiple reps, so I got lazy and listen to the old stuff.

14. they do alot of covers just because its fun.... |
|
and it shows alot of their influences and helps introduce people to other bands they might otherwise not listen to. That being said, phish has a catalog of well over 300 original songs, which is more than most of the bands they cover manage to produce.
