By RONALD BLUM, AP Sports Writer
November 16, 2004

NEW YORK (AP) -- Pedro Martinez visited the enemy Tuesday, meeting with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner at New York's spring training complex in Tampa, Fla.

Taking aim at the World Series champion Boston Red Sox, Steinbrenner talked at Legends Field with the free-agent right-hander.

Martinez was accompanied by agents Fernando Cuza and Pat Rooney. New York vice presidents Mark Newman, Billy Connors and Damon Oppenheimer also attended.

1. WHO'S YOUR DADDY - DADDY WARBUCKS!
Georgie boy loves to spend money on tired old arms. I see the Yankees giving Pedro 10-12 M per year for 2-3 years.

4. Not gonna happen
The Red Sox know Emperor Steinbrenner wants Pedro, and thus will work harder to keep him. Remember, we don't have Dan Pukette anymore.

The object is to make Pedro more expensive for yous guys.

As a Rangers fan(and a sworn Red Sox enemy), I salute him.

7. gotta disagree with you
Steinbrenner wants him! Just to zing the Sox. He is a bad judge of talent (that is why you have people around you to do this stuff for you) but he is of the opinion that if he has the cash he will do what he wants (fine let him destroy his team!)

8. I don't want Pedro
He's old and out of gas.

I want PAVANO, and Johnson(although old, he could finish out his contract with AZ here).

9. You may not want Pedro,
but George does (unless, is this George? If it is, then hey Yankees only team to be up 3-0 and then lose the series!!!) ahem, sorry. George has been known to do what he wants and not listen to his baseball people (who are very competant)

10. I'm not George
and the Yankees blew it 3-0 sure.

But the Sox hadn't won the Series in 86 years. And it's not like they were hurting for money.

They had a bigger payroll than the Yankees throughout the 70s 80s and 90s.

because yes, the sox had a large payroll also. both teams can afford it so why not (sounds kind of republican don't it!). I just hate the arrogance!

12. Arrogance is justified if you're good
Sox just got lucky this year.

They got a royal flush. They turned a 5000 to 1 longshot into reality.

Yanks were 3outs away from eliminating the Sox in two consecutive games, both times with their ace closer(although the 2nd time, it was Gordon's fault). That's life I guess.
