Good lord, what is wrong with these people?
http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/11/17/school.dress.ap/index.html

A woman in Texas complains about a traditional "cross dressing day" at the local schools, saying it "promotes homosexuality." In response, the schools change the day to "camo day" and kids will wear Army gear....

9. OKAY. So "Military Day" = GOOD...
Boys wearing girls clothes and girls wearing boys clothes = EVIL.

...

I'm glad I've got that cleared up, now I can now move on with my life.

Onward Christian Soldiers!

11. while i don't think it would make hetero children turn gay.....
....i must admit that cross dressing day seems like a very strange custom for little kids. i'm not quite sure what to make of it. as a kid, i certainly would not have wanted to participate in something that silly.

i'm not going to take the opposite of the freeper's stance and say that cross dressing day is good and every day should be cross dressing day. on the other hand, the camo day is equally as dumb.

let kids dress like kids normally dress to go to school. there will be plenty of time in their adulthood if they want to dress like the opposite sex, or like GI Joe, or however they want to dress. let's concentrate on the education they're getting instead.

17. It was a Sadie Hawkins sort of deal
The tradition was, the girls would dress like boys and the boys like girls, and then the girls would be the ones to ask the boys out, buy the sodas, etc. Stuff like this happens at schools all over the country, and has for decades.

21. really?
i had never heard about the part where they did the cross dressing. i only knew about the part where the girls asked the guys out.

the cross dressing part seems to be a strange twist. kids are already confused enough about sexuality as it is, no need to confuse or embarrass them more by encouraging them to dress as the opposite sex.

sorry, but it seems weird to me.

the camo day is just as bad. encouraging kids to dress as soldiers to glorify war is ridiculous.

13. In my city the school board decided a tolerance day would be a good idea
yes i know....outrageous!!!! Anyway, i was glad to hear it and the kids were happy to participate. Who shows up at the high school the morning of? None other than the chapter president of the Eagle Forum. i couldn't believe it, well i could but i was pissed, I've had a go round with that bitch at a city council meeting. So much for tolerance. to his credit, the superintendent got them tossed off the campus, they were handing out fliers full of some really nasty stuff.

15. Makes sense to me.
I once bought a unisex sweatshirt. The next day I turned gay.

Of course I am kidding, but why should we expect reason and rationality from people who demand secular governments in the Middle East, while being outraged by them here?

I believe they will over play their hand, and will be rudely surprised when they look behind them and see the rest of the country about to bust them upside the head with a shovel.

20. On the upside, these people are so easy and so much fun to offend...
...and watch them get their panties, er, I mean camo's in a bunch.
I like to take the exact opposite and equally (or more) extreme viewpoint of them, push it as far as I can, and just let it rip and watch their heads spin around.

Then when they start threatening to kill me or beat the shit out of me or some other evil thing, I just tell them "that's a very christian thing for you to say/do. your lord and savior must be proud of you."

23. Our public schools are so wimpy these days.
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 03:08 PM by Zing Zing Zingbah
This woman appears to be a complete nobody, yet the school district will bend over backward to appease her wishes. This doesn't make any sense, yet I see this happening a lot. Many schools are so poor and afraid of getting sued that they'll immediately back down and give in to any demands a parent may have. You used to have to be some one mighty important in the community to have this kind of ultimate power over the school administrators. Now any Joe Dirt type character can make a small fuss, and they'll get their way, regardless of whether or not their complaints are justified.

This is one of the reasons why kids in a lot of schools are getting higher grades than they deserve.

25. After reading the article this one part stood out the most to me
"It's like experimenting with drugs," Davies said. "You just keep playing with it and it becomes customary. ... If it's OK to dress like a girl today, then why is it not OK in the future?"

That argument goes to show how clueless they really are.
