How about a Baby Boomers Group? |
|
(I refuse to be called over the hill!)
As I was showering this morning, I put shampoo on my hair before I got it wet. Now, when you're young and you do such things, you think nothing of it but when you're over 40 (I'm 49,) you think you're beginning to lose it.
That got me to thinking about how great it would be to discuss such issues with others who are over 40. A list of possibly common issues comes to mind:
Coming of age in the 60s and 70s Empty Nest Parenting young adults Planning for Retirement Career Restarts Going back to school Travel Grandparenting Health and Exercise Downsizing Menopause
Possible mission statement: Information, discussion, and support for DU members over 40.
Anyone interested? We don't have to use the name "Baby Boomers Group" but so far, I haven't thought of anything better.
By the way, I was so distracted writing this post in my mind that I almost got out of the shower without rinsing my hair!! :D

no offense to any boomers here on the DU as you guys are the best, but your giant massive generation kinda creeps me out. Seems like we (gen-X) have been living in your shadow our entire lives.
Little things like you guys had a party in college but 3 months before I turned 18, the drinking age in colorado was moved to 21!
now that the largest generation is getting older this country is getting more and more conservative. Scares me! YIKES!

3. i have always hated the baby boomer name |
|
but i love being this age. when i get out of the shower, i face a full length mirror. im beautiful. i love myself. life is good. i am the ultimate authority in my home, and i have the energy of a 20 year old. then the steam evaporates, i realize i have turned 56, am responsible for this world i leave my children, live in fear they will be drafted, know our earth is toxic, that our democracy is so fragile, that people are being killed in our name. i wander through the forest and down to the sea looking for answers, leave my offerings, do a sweet grass cleansing, breathe in the sorrow of the world and breathe out my love. beautiful comrades, we are becoming the elders. are we wise yet?

|

9. I second that, even though I am not a baby boomer |
|
I have two parents who are, and I have always been interested in that generation and their conflicts with the preceding generation.

I posted this group announcement over at General Discussion and we got more than ten responses so I've submitted the idea to Skinner for approval. Watch for an announcement when the group forms! Great to have you!

15. I have a love/hate relationship with my own generation. |
|
Put me down as totally in favor of a Baby Boomer group. I think the mission sounds great. I'll need some of the "support" part, though, as I have grown to despise my generation.
