Aaaaaauuuuggggghhhhhhhhh! Jury duty in Dallas Texas!
Actually, it's not a major deal for me- I've served twice before (in Nashville). I've always thought it was a cool part of one's civic duty, and it can be interesting.

But it can also be a pain in the ass...

1. Don't forget, there are TWO courthouses.
Go to the right one. People forget this. Which one are you headed to?

4. Frank Crowley on Industrial Blvd.
It's the civil and criminal court.

6. Ah, you can't take the train.

Too bad, the one downtown, you can. (Edited to add, it's still downtown, just not downtown PROPER. a bit west of downtown, IIRC.)

Say HI to our new Democratic judges, if you meet any of them. Wonder if they're seated yet. Probably not, actually.

2. Even if the case is only for shoplifting,
just tell them you don't believe in the death penalty and you'll be dismissed.

5. I didn't say I WANTED to be dismissed.
I said I find the process interesting, and am proud to take part if I can.

3. Easy to skip out of it, right? I mean, you're in Texas, right?
If it's a murder case, during voir dir just say that you would vote against the death penalty. You never sit on a Texas jury again! :7

7. Eh, wish it worked that way.
I'm anti-death penalty, said so when I got called to a murder one case, and still REPEATEDLY get called to go downtown as soon as I'm eligible again. My whole family gets it in the neck.... we call it jury duty karma. Nobody's been picked yet though!

8. Oaky, that's probably true. After all, say you're against the
death penalty too many times in Texas and you'll definitely "go downtown" to get worked over by some low-brow Deputy Dawg types. "What's 'is ah here 'bout you bein' agin' th' death pinnalty? 'At's jes' Un-amurrikan!"
