Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 07:00 PM by Zech Marquis
:bounce: In the last hour I was playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live, so once I was done--and he ending...oh man--I chekced my email and BOOM! It has just left the factory (in Shanghai I think). What a way to finish my vacation weel :bounce: :bounce: :wow::wow::beer::beer:

On a related note, I've been readingabout some iMa G5 owners cranking up their processor setings to highest, then complain that their machine fans become much louder..hellooooooo, are you guys really that stupid? You don't need afterburners on a jet just to taxi to the runway people! So why go full throttle on a consumer Mac 24/7? Just do what I did, order as much extra memory as you need.

2.  you must feel like Christmas eve
i was so afraid of my iMac that i didn't open the box for 3 weeks,my first computer and i didn't want to be let down and confused.Broke down and opened it,the manuel told how to plug in the a.c. cord, felt like a cave man at physics lecture. Three years later and i still know nothing about the little box.

8. I sure do!
especially given the fact that I've been working my ass off for the past six months for this moment.

Now about your issue with the iMac--don't worry, it won't bite you  In fact, Macs will just about hold your hand and smile at you too. All you have to do is tale a deep breath, and just explore what that badboy can do!

3. I bought mine on the first day of sales.
I got it a month or two ago,

I bought the 20 ' version with 2 G of ram.

I have no gripes for the most part. The built tin speakers could be better and the video card could be tons better but I knew that going in so I can not complain to much.

** One thing you may want to do to improve the performance of your iMac G5
Go to energy settings and select the options button. Go to processor performance it will be defaulted to automatic. If you place it into high you will see a noticeable difference in performance. The fan may run a little more but overall you will never know.

the iMac G5 and the rest of the G5's will not come into their own until Tiger arrives.

9. No thanks
Nonononononononononon NO!!!!

You can play around with YOUR processor settngs, but NOT me. I paid Apple extra money to add RAM for a reason, that wasn't to be playing Tog Gun wiht he damn CPU :argh: I'm sorry, but no thanks to that last piece of advice. Not unless you'll buy a spare imac G5 for me...

4. I've done Windows in my first 3
personal PCs; but I am so frustrated angry at the performance of Windows XP Pro in the face of security updates and installs, that I am FOR THE FIRST TIME, considering a MAC.

Is the iMac a consistant running machine? Are you bombarded with Updates and then when you install them, the machine is never the same?

Please advise.

10. Mac's have software updates.
Apple does security updates and OS updates and other software updates.

It is very easy to update.

I have had very very very few problems with any updates from Apple far less than any I had on a WINTEL box.

OS X or OS 10.3 is awesome very stable.

I would not recommend a Mac for huge gaming nuts but it does anything a PC can do wihtout the tons of spyware and viruses. Yes Mac can get viruses and spyware but its samll market share is one of its best security features.

11. Macs do have Software Update
it's direct link to Apple' servers, and they will post the usual updates for or your hardware and software as needed. You cn schedule this t take place at night or whenever. You're still in charge of the whole process.
security updates are like once a month or when needed, same with OS X updates. But the pin release for OS X, I like to wait and see how other people's Mac perfrom like before I take the plunge.

5. THAT is a nice rig.
I'm a little married to x86, but I'm on the fence...

Just can't get used to that one button mouse, having worked with the X Window System all these years with 3 button mice.

7. One button?
Yes Mac's come with one button but you can use multi-button mice.

Most Mac users buy multi-button mice.

6. Nothing like a new box! My brother just spilled wine onto my brand new
Alienware Area 51 notebook, and now half the keyboard has remapped itself. New one's only $20, but it will take a week or so to arrive. Grrrr...!

20. Yeah, I was pretty hot. Threw him and my mom out (he had driven her
over for bbq ribs I'd made on the rotisserie). First he opened a $40 bottle of wine while I was on a conference call (not the one he spilled, and at least he saved me a glass). Then came the spilling.

Alienware sez it just needs a new keyboard for $20. It's in the queue, but will take a week or so to get here.

Right now my keyboard types. qwerty67890- and so on. Left side is good, right side is bad.

(Sigh). It was my first time showing it to a living soul.

I maxed out the ram on my 20 inch iMac. I know i payed a hefty price but I wil hold onto this computer till the next version comes out in a few years.

I have owned three different versions.

iMac G3 (Summer 2000)
iMac G4 15 Inch

Now iMac G5 20 inch :)

19. woops, it was NOT made in China after all
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 10:09 PM by Zech Marquis
I got the invoice email from Apple moments ago, and reading down the list, it said shiped from the F/G Distribution Center, Elk Grove California :wow:

Now that's a surprise! I'd expected ALL of the iMac G5s to be built in Shanghai. Apparently Apple still has a plant making them in the Golden State. That's a nice surprise :-)
