Children = Petri Dish of Terror
My niece is adorable but like all children, a carrier of disease. I was fine on Saturday. Sunday, I visited with my brother's family. Now I'm sick. Coincidence? I think not.

1. oh, yeah.
One time I went to see my brother's kids. A couple of days later I had an earache and then I talk to him on the phone and he's talking about the baby having an ear infection - I was like "no shit"

2. Take at least 250 mg
of vitamin C every day....

I work in a children's hospital, and hardly ever get sick.

5. Thats prob because
Your immune system is incredibly well equipped to combat childhood diseases since i am sure you have been exposed to many. Vitamin C does nothing.

4. I dunno. My husband used to blame
our oldest son when he (husband) would come down with stuff, whether or not the kid had gotten sick. Oddly enough, I never got sick, so I think it's just a matter of the individual immune system.

And do you never catch anything from an adult? Just checking.

7. I think you tend to get closer to children
My niece was putting pretend make-up on me. I've also been leveled by my friends children.

I'm not around sick people very much. I did get sick from a friend once. We went to a movie together and shared a popcorn.

8. I'm a mom and I love that name for kids!
Petri Dish of Terror. LOL!

When the kids were babies we would warn off family from visiting by saying, "Don't come to Plague House!"

9. I avoid Parenting Coworkers like the plague in the winter...
They're carriers of the science experiments and phlegm being passed around at public schools.

I'm nice to them and all, but you know no body contact if at all possible. Last time I was in close proximity to my little neices I ended up puking for 36 hours straight.

I am not looking forward to Thanksgiving.

11. Day care centers and elementary schools are disease pits
And just think what it was like before we had all these great vaccines and immunizations we now have?

Our daughter brought home every little rhinovirus known to man and gleefully gave them to her father. For the first 6 years of her life, he was sick just as much as she was. I on the other hand seldom caught her bugs.

As the oldest child in the household, I considered it my sworn duty to infect my sister with any and every thing that went around. So we had
chickenpox together, mumps together, measles together (both kinds), various strep throats, colds, stomach/intestinal viri, etc.

Our much younger sister escaped all that except chickenpox, thanks to vaccines.

13. ZICAM is my anti-child medicine
No Zicam is not birth control, it's a homeopathic cold preventative medicine. Zinc-based. Good stuff.

18. Hmm..
"it's a homeopathic cold preventative medicine."

So it does nothing then...

"Zinc-based."

The water used to make it was once in the same room as some zinc, so it's magically zinc-based?

25. I prefer all my magic to be "zinc-based"
Though correct me if I'm wrong (and I often am), but I don't believe that Zicam is homeopathic.

27. It's not. It actually works.
I use it at the first sign of a cold and it really does shorten the duration and intensity. I don't know how, but I know that it's not just in my head.

28. Hmm...
I just did a search on it, and I can't seem to get an answer one way or the other. But, apparently it causes anosmia and dysosmia.

But you're right, zinc-based magic is superior to all other forms of magic, except depleted-uranium-based magic... which is the best because it goes all the way to 11.

29. I checked their website, and they do call it homeopathic
But I think they're incorrect in their usage of the word, as it contains large amounts of zinc, rather than diluting it until there is no trace of zinc to be found. Hardly homeopathic.

34. Those side effects don't seem so bad
1) don't have to worry about smelling funky people
2) can tolerate eating mother in law's nasty cooking.

Now that's a tradeoff I can live with.

14. School-Age Children Are the #1 Resevoir of Antibiotic-Restitant URIs
That's Upper Respiratory Infections; most school-age children (86%) are also strep carriers. Younger children are covered with e. coli (and so are their parents, from carrying them).

22. Hmm... E. coli
E. coli is harmless, as long as you don't get it in the wrong place (e.g. the blood, the brain etc) and you don't get a pathogenic subtype (e.g. O157).

What's your source for your initial claim about antibiotic resistant URIs?
