Questions about World War II. |
|
Is it true that people trying to flee Nazi Germany were able to destroy a dogs sense of smell? How would that be possible?

4. Just out of curiousity, why are you asking this question? |
|
Are you planning a run for the border chased by bloodhounds?

I remember reading Number the Stars when I was younger, and was wondering if there was basis for the chemical cloth thingy. I don't remember exactly what it was. I should pick it up again.

7. Not sure what you mean. |
|
Do you think they were destroying the dogs sense of smell in anticipation of needing to run, or that they did something while running that destroyed the dogs sense of smell? Or, that they did something that allowed them to escape the dogs sense of smell (such as running along a creek to disguise their scent?)

10. Hmm, ok, I'm certainly no expert. |
|
I'd guess that if you doused a cloth in some intense chemical, like ammonia or bleach, you'd certainly louse up a dogs sense of smell, if not worse. (No, animal lovers, I'm not promoting this idea.) I'd think that would at least temporarily stop it from tracking anything?
I was thinking you might also spray the area behind you as you ran with a similarly noxious substance, for perhaps the same effect? Dunno if that would work.
