Does anyone else think that Quentin Tarantino is just a bit overrated?
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 11:03 PM by UpsideDownFlag
i mean, dont get me wrong- i loved pulp fiction, and reservior dogs was decent. but it seems like lately, with the Kill Bill series, he's sorta lost some of his pizazz.

...explain why you do or dont, if you wish.

3. My hubby can't stand him. He is into the real martial arts movie genre
and feels that Q.T. has just made a hash of it.

5. I've disliked every movie of his I've ever seen
And it's not that I haven't tried! I saw Pulp Fiction, and even with all of the hype, and everybody loving it, I still thought it was terrible. I've even watched it twice, for the benefit of the doubt.

I gave Jackie Brown a shot. That was awful.

And, just because everybody raved about it, I watched Reservoir Dogs, and again, I really didn't like it.

You would think that with everybody in love with him that some of the mob-mentality would have rubbed off on me.

Finally I'm fed up, and I have refused to watch either of the Kill Bills, even though my wife thinks that I might finally like these.

I am usually good with gory movies...but i had to leave the room after they smashed the guys head in the door in the hospital. Never saw the rest of the movie.

25. you were smart to leave then. I watched the rest and it got far
worse. Then again I walked out on Pulp Fiction after 15 minutes, so I made a smart move there. I will never see another one of his films unless I read about ten reviews saying there was no violence.

9. One movie does not make a master
He actually ruins Pulp Fiction by placing himself in it. I thought it was going great until he popped up. What a dumb egotistic masturbatioral move to make.

23. Why?
So I can see the same tripe for the fifth time? My ex-husband loved this movie so I have seen it more times than I care to remember. It's nothing special.

11. Should still be just a video store clerk, IMO
My apologies to video store clerks. Never understood the buzz about Pulp Fiction and refuse to spend good money on anything else of his.

12. I have always despised him.
His films are evil, anti-human garbage. The little pop-culture quips do nothing to redeem what is just a series of gory, cruel episodes. I can't stand seeing him talk, either, with his bitchy voice and hyperactive demeanor.

I consider Tarantino to be an indicator of how deep in the sewer popular tastes have sunk.

14. I'll pretend I didn't read that! Thems fightin' words!
Quentin Tarantino is a film genius.

Sometimes his dialogue gets hokey. But he has a real talent for characters (which is why most stars would LOVE to do his films) and storylines. Even though he leans heavily on films of the past, he always manages to be slick and fresh. Pulp Fiction spawned about fifty thousand copycat nonlinear plots, for example.

I also really like how he pays so much attention to the music in his films.

Btw, Jackie Brown wasn't his story, that's why it sucked.

Kill Bill seemed like a very violent cartoon.

He is there because of his shock value. I think his movies are interesting, but very slight, and sometimes very stupid.
