Isn't it funny "Beaver" never had a Christmas episode
I think i've seen every episode of "Leave it to Beaver" and not one of them is a holiday episode. It seemed that all those family comedies eventually did a holiday show--but not Beaver. Maybe they were right, and didn't want to offend people who don't believe in Christmas. But if any show you'd expect a holiday themed episode it would be Beaver.

I can't believe I began a thread on this subject :)

Come to think of it, "The Munsters" never had a Christmas show either and that show was created by the same team which created and produced Beaver.

1. You know, I'm not sure Beaver ever actually jumped the shark
I can't remember seeing any episodes that used a traditional shark-jumping maneuver:

- No 'Very Special Guest' appearances
- No 'Cleavers go on vacation in Hawaii' episodes
- No major characters died
- No characters changed actors midway during the show
- Ted McGinley never joined the show

Did it actually never jump the shark?

(actually, same with the Munsters).

8. Good point
Beaver's voice was changing in elementary school, and Wally was getting a paunch in HS.

10. Yeah, but didn't the show bow out gracefully?
Even the episodes for the final season were good, if I recall correctly.

So would canceling the series before it "jumped the shark" constitute "jumping the shark?"

Hey, folks, we DIDN'T jump the shark!

Ward, weren't you a little too hard on the Beaver last night?

5. Was it even ever WINTER?
Beaver usually wore a light jacket and cap. Sometimes the weather seemed to get a bit warmer, though (and I have only seen the show in reruns) I can't remember anyone wearing shorts, either.

17. There was never "A Very Special Beaver" either
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 03:30 PM by Strawman
Well there is, but I have to go behind that curtain into that little room at the video store to rent that.

That was before alot of the cliches. They were being invented. Trying to remember if they went to church or not even.

22. In the early days of TV, I think seasonal episodes were avoided
two reasons

1) In a universe where time never advances having an event like Christmas (especially multiple times) conflicts with this. Today, we are more accepting of such irregularities and nobody seems to mind that we've seen a 10 year old boy who has been in 13 different halloween episodes.

2) In the early days of TV they didn't have the rich reservoir or rerun fodder that we enjoy today. So every episode had to be as rerunnable as possible. Xmas episodes are no good in May.
