oh HELLS YEAH- NO MORE ORGANIC CHEMISTRY!!!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
I JUST found out that I was in the BS (bachelor of Science) degree program for Biology instead of the BA program....by switching to the BA, I don't have to take Organic chem OR calculus based physics!
PUhh-RAISE JESUS!!!
:bounce:
Seriously, you guys have NO idea how freakin' psyched I am!! I am free from the mental abuse!

3. nope
Which is why I'm psyched about this. I'm just a plain ol' bio major who has NO INTENTIONS to go to MedSchool; I want to teach.

2. I gotta tell you... ochem is WAY better than general chem.
Very spatial. I liked it.

5. OChem is fun
But the tests rape me. It's not worth seeing my GPA sink to the depths of Bush levels...

17. Thats what O Chem did to me...
My gpa plummeted. It would have went down even further if my prof wasnt absolutely awesome and tutored me in his free time. he also gave me a C when i should have failed. The second semester of O chem got me a B- though...so i guess his tutoring helped :)

I unfortunately have to take Physical Inorganic Chemistry next semester...for my last semester of my undergrad. Damn grad schools for requiring 4 semesters of chemistry! damn them to hell!

4. Thanks for the heads up.
My college bound son is going for a biology degree and although he does very well in calculus, he hates chemistry.

6. Uh, beg pardon, but in the absence of calculus based physics,
what do they offer, faith based physics?

(ducking and running)

No, you just don't take it :)
I love physics and chemistry....but it's just not worth taking it when I could be taking some good lit classes instead.

10. heh.... no, algebra-based physics I suppose
I always, always highly recommend taking calculus-based physics and first semester calc at the same time. First semester calc isn't at all difficult (well... if you have a decent teacher...) and classical physics only makes sense when you learn calc at the same time. Otherwise it's just formula memorization whi, yeah, means basically taking it all on faith. Using calc you really UNDERSTAND the material easier.

O-chem isn't difficult but you cannot EVER fall behind or you're sunk. P-Chem, now that's a nightmare class from hell.

18. nooo! dont say that!
P-chem is bad? I have to take it next semester...:scared:

I took algebra based physics. what a fucking joke. My prof didnt feel we were worth his time so he showed us movies about Einstein and Steven Hawkings. And we could use all of our notes for our exams. I never took calc by the way. I have successfully gone 4 years in college without ever taking it (i dropped it first semester!)

8. Bah! It's all voodoo!
And Gawd said, "let there be molecules." And lo, molecules did appear, and they were good. Then Gawd said, "let there be a field of study surrounding these molecules and the most absurd details of their structure and behavior." And then Gawd thought better of it and said, "nah - let there be boobies, instead." But it was too late. Satan had overheard the whole "molecules" thing, and he immediately set about inventing Chemistry.

12. good god
That's crazy :scared:
I seriously cannot imagine the mind of someone who has mastered high math or chemistry...it's too much for me to comprehend.
I'll stick to my genetics and evolutionary bio, thankyouverymuch. :P

...not that bad. Biochemistry (if you have to take it) is what'll kill ya!

Good Luck.

22. Strangely
I find biochem infinitely more palatable than orgo. Somehow, I don't mind memorizing the structures of body processes nearly as odious as, say, the williamson ether synthesis.

Instead, I chose to be hyper-bubbly. :P

16. Organic chemistry is good for you: after all, it's organic!
I started as a chem major (I won't say how many decades ago); but I switched majors after the first semester or organic chem. I had all As, but I kept vomiting after org chem lab (well, I had also brought a bug back from a summer in Mexico). I haven't been sad -- I've long been an academic with a doctorate in sociology.

But how can you major in biology without org chem?

23. It's sort of like
memorizing an encyclopedia in a language you don't understand and that will have no practical application to anything in anyone's life ever. Other than that, it's a piece of cake, though.
