Where did the DU groups Idea originate?

I think it is great to have them. Is it for us to stay politically involved and also discuss other interests to make life more bearable?

5. What I really like about the groups is...

I can discuss sci-fi or games or books and not have some stupid bushbot bring up politics and turn it into a flamewar.
Okay, there's no guarantee that won't happen here, but the odds are much lower. I can't discuss things on other boards, usually because some idiot decides to start ragging on liberals.

(I was at a computer game board and some asshole had the Democratic Party logo - the red, white and blue donkey, imposed under a crosshair. He pretty much said "I think we should do to liberals what my avatar suggests. That would solve the problem." Fucking mods defended him, too. I don't go there anymore.)
