I f***ing hate the Mainland!!!!
I had to go to Vancouver yesterday, to see my orthodontist. I usually take a passenger ferry because I don't need to drive when I'm there.

But this time, I had alot of errands to do, so I drove. So that's $40 each way.

Vancouver traffic SUCKS. Always has, but it seems worse.

Everybody's rude.

Parking is impossible.

Construction everywhere.

Always the chance I'll run into my ex.

I had to go to Ikea, and of course, they were out of everything ("Ikea: Swedish for Out of Stock"). So, I was in and out in half an hour. And still $300 poorer, despite not finding anything I came to buy.

While in the parking lot, my truck was broken into, and despite being hidden from view, the following items were stolen:

My cellphone, my iPod, my iPod cables, my digital camera, my hiking boots, my goretex rain parka, and the faceplate for my stereo.

And, for some reason known only to the thief, my retainer.

So, I tore a strip off the Ikea manager... as if that'll do anything. Basically it was along the lines of "you fuckers make millions every year in this location alone, and you have no parking security, and no lighting in the parking lot. But if I were to steal one "Njorl" coaster, I'd have three security guards beating my ass with poorly-made yet still effective scandinavian law-enforcement batons before you could say "grainy Stockholm porn".

The guy mumbled something about the lighting issues being addressed, and I fucking LOST IT on his ass:

"You've been here for fifteen years, and you're just addressing the lighting issues NOW? I promise you, it is no darker at night than it was fifteen years ago..."

and so forth...

I fucking HATE the Mainland. I'm never leaving this Rock again.

Oh, and I had to replace my cell today, and my sturdy old 5 year old manley model with buttons an adult human can press has been replaced with my choice of pink, blue or silver Barbie phones with cute pictures and flimsy hinges. I just told the guy to give me the model which wasn't filled with candy, and he looked at me like I was from Mars.

Fuck you, North American land mass!

1. "Always the chance I'll run into my ex."
That's the reason I can never go visit my parents without acting paranoid.

Odd about the retainer though. Perhaps the thief thought he needed a more aligned smile.

4. Wow...

...you sound like me when I have to drive to Chicago.

I'm sorry about your truck and the stuff you lost....I've been robbed a couple of times, it sucks and you stay MAD a long, long time.

They do take the weirdest things...one time my underwear and makeup was stolen from a cabin I was staying in...turned out it was the 2 teenage girls staying in the cabin next to mine.

5. We planned the whole thing!
Sorry about your stolen items...may I suggest checking out a pawn shop on Granville?

I personally think the most friendly people in the Province are in Vancouver though.

10. Fuck it, they're gone.
Am I going to spend the day going into every sleezy pawn shop on Granville looking for an iPod I can't find the S/N to? Nah, particularly as my ex is staying in our place om Seymour. I'd rather lose the iPod than see her.

6. No lighting in the parking lot?
For a place like Ikea, that is ridiculous. What a horrible day you had.

8. Don't hate us all
some of us are nice over here.

That sucks about all your stuff. I hate the Ikea in Richmond. The new one is much better, not that it helps.

You have to get into a zen state in order to deal with the traffic.

You have to come back. How are we going to have our little rendezvous at the airport?

11. Damn -- that is a good rant!
I was just in Victoria, B.C. about a month ago -- I LOVED the place.

I feel the same way when I have to take the ferry to Seattle -- traffic HORRIBLE -- nothing in stock.
