I gotta get in on the pissy mood action in the lounge |
|
Well *I* got a letter from the grad school I applied to saying (translated) YOUR UNDERGRADUATE GPA SUCKS! GO BEG THE DEPARMENTAL ADVISOR TO LET YOU IN PROVISIONALLY!
So I got to write an email to THAT guy, explaining to him that I've been out of college for years, been very successful, my GRE scores kicked ass (didn't put it like that) and that I'd agree to keeping a high GPA in grad courses, coming in for an interview, giving professional references, etc.
I KNEW THAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BUT IT STILL SUCKS/SUX! I HAD TO BEG!
SO SCREW ALL OF YOU! IT'S DU's FAULT I HAVE A LOUSY UNDERGRATUATE GPA!
(even though I graduated in 92, shut up)

10. Yeah, but were you ever on "last-chance scho-pro"? |
|
One more bad semester and I was going to be asked to leave - permanently. Good thing the summer was coming up and I made up my grade point deficiency with 3 A's and a B. I think I ended up with a 2.54.

12. First semester at A&M |
|
I made a 1.666 GPA! EVIL OMEN!
So then I was on sco-pro (all the best of us were at one point or another, ya know!) so I took only 12 hours the next semester and made sure two of them were fairly easy (for A&M). Made a 2.8 or something and managed to avoid being kicked out.
Whew!
That first semester GPA is what killed it for me for the rest of my time there.

14. Ahem...my first semester GPA was SUB 1.0! |
|
I was asked to leave and coalesce my fecal matter. I went back to junior college, got my grades up, then went back to A&M. If you count all my classes between the two institutions, I'm close to 3.0.
I was 3.0 in my major at least. :D

seriously I did. I bought those prep books and studied. Plus the verbal stuff and the writing is RIGHT up my alley. I've been an English teacher all this time. So that was good practice.
It was the math I sucked at. So I boned up.

and a 5 out of 6 on the writing. My math score was high 500s, can't remember--the math part wasn't what the grad school I was applying to was looking at, they didn't really care about it, just the verbal and writing scores.

Once they see you're the grown-up, smart, dedicated teacher you are, they'll welcome you!
Or they should.
Maybe if we started a mass e-mailing campaign? JUST KIDDING FOLKS!
Yikes, that could be scary, huh?
Hang in there!
Edited to fix that name... oops
