Any Jean Shepherd radio show fans?
I was too young to ever listen live, but i listen to his archives. He tells great stories, and he truly has heart.

1. Read his books too.

Amazingly funny fellow. If all he had done was create the world behind "A Christmas Story", that alone would be enough to get him into heaven. Fortunately he did much more.

2. Shep radio fan right here!
I've downloaded about 150 of his shows off the Mass Backwards site in the last couple years ("new" show every week - check out the link on FlickLives, assuming you haven't already).

Awesome stuff - everything from downright zaniness to piercing insight.

4. I used to listen to him when I was a kid

in the sixties. Every night at ten o'clock (IIRC), I would tune my late-fifties-vintage RCA Victor AA5 radio to WOR, 710 kc on the AM dial, just to the right of the lower CONELRAD frequency. The theme song is running in my mind now. What's its name?

Edited to add a gratuitous drive-by linking to CONELRAD.

5. I also used to listen as a kid.
I lived in New York, and I had a transistor radio with an earpiece. I'd tune him in late at night (and I think it WAS 10 p.m.) and I'd listen. He had such a great voice, and his stories were wonderful. My brother used to do the same in his bedroom.

Many times, I'd fall asleep listening to him, and I'd wake up late at night, earpiece on the pillow, spewing either static or some other loud, useless thing :)

7. used to listen at night as a kid with the transistor radio under my pillow
the one that sticks out almost 4 decades later is the one were he reminisced about shooting the moon with his bb gun as a kid and him just knowing that when someone finally got there they would find the bb.

pure americana.
