Moral Question: Petitions |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 09:08 PM by BoX o BooX
My nephew has taken a job circulating petitions for a law here in California requiring parental notification for abortions provided to minors.
He is taking the position that, while he would not necessarily vote for such a law should it make it to the ballot (which it almost certainly will,) he can make some money by participating in the democratic process and encouraging others to do so.
I am taking the position that, while it is certainly legal and admirable for people to participate in democracy, I cannot and will not sign or circulate a petition for a law to be placed on the ballot which is, in my opinion, immoral and discriminatory.
Discuss?
Edited to note that the immorality of the proposed law is my opinion, not objective truth. My nephew wanted me to note that.

2. Him serving is not an option. |
|
Also, he points out that only registered voters can circulate petitions in this state. Ergo, he is old enough to enlist; it's simply not an option. Also, it's wildly off-topic.

3. Well there was a touch of sarcasm. |

But if he has no conscience and wants to make money I thought it might be a remedy. At least he could contribute to destroying other people's lives in a more productive fashion.
