Can anyone recommend a good sim/war/strategy PS2 game?
Preferably all 3 in one?

I just picked up a PS2 to play the new Fturama game (which is a lot of fun!).

I keep going to all the game stores, but it seems that most of the video games these days are like one of 3 varieties, all arcade-ish slash-ems or shoot-ems. I know there are a few war/strategy games like Romance of the 3 Kingdoms and (I think) Kessen, but shouldn't there be a lot of 'em?

As much as I love the Futurama game (worth it just for the new voice acting), I think it woulda been better to make a perpetual strategy game, where you make money or points or something by making deliveries. Those were always my favorite games. Ones with distinct storylines don't interest me as much as games where you can go do what you like and do well or fail on your own. Plus a game that never ends is a good investment!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

1. How about Everquest for PS2?
I haven't checked it out yet myself, I play the PC version.

It's a perpetual massive multi-player game. You might want to check out online reviews. There is a fee to play though to join with many other people and play online.

2. *shudder* I'm in rehab...
:)

Not really, but I also play EQ on the PC. I used to play a TON, but I've cooled off a lot, and now only play once a week with my brother (which is fun). EQ is probably the best game ever made, but I'm after something a little different at the moment, I think.

3. Any of the combo games
Any of the first person shooter games require strategy and if they have good graphics they are fun and fun to watch...They have The Sims on PS2 now... My bf loved Vice City, all the Grand Theft Auto games...If you haven't played The Sims though, I highly recommend it...It's hard, fun and even a little silly at times...

What do you play?

I used to play SO MUCH on vallon zek. But planes of power totally ruined the game.

even luclin sucked bigass.. it totally destroyed whatever fantasy still remained.

In the end there was 2 guilds on my server (worth anything)

The european guild and the american guild.. to put it short we hated eachother, we would train eachother in vex thal, they would screw it up when we killed ralloz zek etc etc, anyway i got tired of it , i found out i played it as a shore now instead of for fun. Also it sucked to just log on and hear how bad the other guild had been to us. Then my friends in the other guild would tell me what bad stuff my guildmates had done to them..

Also planes of power screwed up high end gaming. Imagine how fun it was to reflag someone who would just join our guild from scratch, involving killing bertoxxulous, ralloz zek etc etc etc just for this guy, then the next month more would join.. *shudder* i quit. Not because i was tired but because the game ultimately sucked.

Oh and to top it off both uilds had full vex thal or planar armor which meant you would go with super resists, thus making pvp sucky as hell, especially for pure melee (like me).

Basicly the pure melees was lowest of the low on the food chain,

monk
warrior
Rogue in that order.. oh and i was probably top 1 or 2 rogue on server in gear. and some wizard or whatever from some guild you wouldnt have heard off could kill me.

I am REALLY looking forward to world of warcraft which i hope will be great. Furor said it looked and seemed great.

Sw galaxies will just be eq again.

anyway i got around $500 for my 65 rogue so im ok with it.

One thing though and it almost makes me cry are all the friends i will never talk to again :(

anyway WARNING WARNING do NOT play everquest.

YES it was an INCREDIBLE game but it isnt that anylonger.

4. For replay and freedom
I haven't found much better than GTA:VC. Sure it's got it's shoot-em elements, but the amount of freedom, vast array of things to do, and replay value make it priceless.

Disgaea is either released or soon to be, it's an RPG/Strategy with an anime feel, I'm lookin into it.

10. Unfortunately no Civilization for PS2
though I could get the PS versions.

How's Age of Empires? is it all sim, or is there strife/combat as well?

14. I know this is COMPLETELY unrelated,
but I have to recommend my all-time fave PS2 game...

Dance Dance Revolution 7th mix (AKA DDRMAX)!

but, you kinda also have to buy a dance pad for it, so it's a bit more money, but I still think it's the most fun game I own..

P.S. For strategy games, go with Ring of Red or Kessen or something....

15. My favorites
Age of Empires (Rise of Rome version is my favorite) great on-line communities for all versions.

Civil War Generals II -- low tech, but replays all the major battles of the Civil War.
