Any Jayhawks (the band) fans?
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 09:58 AM by janesez
They played a Jayhawks song on the radio this morning. God, it brought memories flooding back. I loved them so much and played Hollywood Town Hall obsessively. I think Mark Olsen is one of the best lyricists ever. Anyone else love this band?

1. Whew!
Yes, Jayhawks (the band) are great. When I saw this topic, I thought you meant the University of Kansas Jayhawks. And being as I went to the University of Missouri, I would have been forced to hunt you down and beat you with a wet noodle -- a lot!

3. oh yeah
"Hollywood Town Hall" and "Tomorrow The Green Grass" are two of my favorite albums.

Their cover of Grand Funk's "Bad Time" ranks as one of the best covers ever recorded.

4. I have only heard
the song "Tailspin". I think that is an awesome song - and I am planning on researching them a litte more.

6. Olsen
I love their older stuff. It's not the same without Mark Olsen. Not just his song writing but the vocal harmonies aren't the same.

16. that is a great song
I missed them when they were at our local arts festival this year.

Are they the same guys with The Plastic Silver 9 Volt album? I really liked what I heard of them.

7. What song did they play?
I only have "Tomorrow the Green Grass" but just about every one of their songs that I've heard is terrific.

Great band.

14. Yeah.
Always liked them but never had any of their CD's. Had kind of forgotten about them until I saw them on Austin City Limits this past summer and was really impressed. Went out and bought Tomorrow the Green Grass after that. That's a great CD. I'll probably buy more of their stuff. I like Tailspin too.

18. Yes, they are awesome!
I also heard that one of their old stomping grounds (First Ave.) in Minneapolis was closing. Any truth to that?

20. I'm a huge fan
While Hollywood Town Hall has a more organic feel, Smile and Rainy Day Music are just as thrilling IMO. Hope they have a new album coming soon.

22. Jayhawks!
They were always very popular here in their hometown area of Minneapolis-St Paul.

It's been said that Gram Parsons and Neil Young were their musical inspiration but I've always felt that their real inspiration was the James Gang (one of my all-time faves!). But hell, what do I know.
