"Evil Dead" to be remade
LOS ANGELES - The Evil Dead – the 1981 no-budget horror flick that launched the career of director Sam Raimi and made a sort-of star out of Bruce Campbell – is set to be remade.

Raimi will oversee the project as producer, but will not direct the new picture.

<...>

According to some reports, Campbell will reprise his role as Ash, the film's sole survivor.

The film made Campbell – Raimi's childhood friend – into a minor celebrity, leading to a string of appearances in B movies.

"By keeping its original formula intact and given audiences' appetite for horror, we expect that we'll have a real hit on our hands," Joe Drake, an executive with Senator Intl., told Daily Variety.

1. all the rehashing of old movies/ideas just saves them money
they don't have to introduce the product to you and they don't have to create anything new. money money money.

2. Seriously,
I don't get why they'd remake it, either.

3. Evil Dead 2 was essentially a remake of Evil Dead
Why bother remaking it again? I don't get it either.

4. There was a certain scene in that movie
which we youngsters at the time called (after a local building supply store) the Beaver Lumber scene. I wonder if they'll keep it for this pointless remake?

7. My opinion has been validated by the geeks!
"I know I'd rather see a continuation of the series rather than another remake of EVIL DEAD. They did it perfectly with EVIL DEAD 2, kinda struck that odd balance of being a rema-sequel, so why do it again?"

I am goddess of the geeks!
