Do you shower in the morning or in the evening? Why? |
|
Something that fascinates me since apparently I am one of only ten people in the entire US of A who showers in the evening. Here's why I do:
1. Growing up, that's what my family did. We showered or bathed in the evening, before going to bed.
2. I love getting into bed clean!
3. A nice hot shower is extremely relaxing before bed.
4. I can snag some more sleep time in the morning, because I've already showered and blow dried my hair the night before!
5. Cold winter mornings, I don't have to get wet and be colder when I get out! UG!
6. I have plenty of time to do so, since my husband is a morning shower-er. No fighting for the shower in the morning. In college, this worked out well, too, because ALL of my roommates showered in the morning, so I got plenty of hot water the night before and didn't have to rush or worry about getting in in the morning.
Now I know a lot of people have told me they shower in the morning because it wakes them up. But putting contacts in my eyes and drinking coffee wakes me up just as much.
Anywho. Are you a morning or evening or middle of the day person or none of the above or what? And why?

1. In the summer: morning; In the winter: evening. |
|
Why? Because in the summer, I sweat all night and I love the feeling of getting clean and then walking to work with the warm breeze blowing through my wet hair.
In the winter, I've been cold all day and I love a hot shower to warm me up before I go to bed. Plus it's too damn cold to go outside with wet hair and pores open in the morning!

2. Shower in the morning - hot tub in the evening. |
|
I shower in the morning mostly so my hair doesn't look like I was raised by wolves. If I need to relax in the evening, I just hop into the hot tub.

I forgot to account for people who end up taking more than one a day! My husband does that in the summer, because he says he just "feels grimy."

generally I'm a morning shower person. I think it's because I feel and look cleaner, and I want people to see me clean! my hair turns funny during sleep if I shower at night, and I feel like i've wasted a whole lot of shampoo! also, my family is full of morning shower people.

Most of the time, unless I've done something to get me really funky.
I'm a night critter, and MUST have the shower, the contacts, and the coffee to wake me up for work. On weekends, my kids wake me with a can of coke (ca-cola).
I have heard that people with allergies should shower before going to bed because you carry pollen in your hair and this pollen gets on your pillow, which your face ends up in. I have mega-allergies, and tested this, but really didn't see much difference.
Also, my hair is long, and I don't own a blow dryer (bad for hair!!), so it takes forever to dry. I'd have to shower by 7 PM for my hair to be dry by midnight (It retains water like a sponge). No way I can do this. My other half works nights, and my kids would kill each other if I left them alone long enough to shower while they were still awake.

19. I take a bath at night and a quick shower in the morning if I have time. |
|
I also love to get into bed clean. I love to take bubbles and bath oils and bath salts and smelly candles and I get less acid reflux at night if I take a bath before I go to bed. Also, In the morning, I nurse my baby, and then sterilize my breast pump and storage bottles and get ready for work, which takes a lot of time. If I don't have time for a shower, I know I'm basically clean.

How freaking stinky does one get going from getting clean in the shower, to brushing their teeth, blow drying their hair, then getting into bed on clean sheets? Those activities don't exactly make a person break a sweat or get "stinky."
And I don't jog in my sleep or anything, so when you wake up, you are still clean and still smell clean. Then that night, you do it again.

I concure completely with numbers 4 & 5.
I am a serious morning whore -- I will do anything I can to grab a few extra minutes in a warm bed with the kitties before facing the day. Taking care of business the night before allows me to get out of bed just 15 minutes before heading out the door. I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

I grew up with nighttime bath/shower as my kids are. If I sweat during the day, which is when it is over 75 degrees out, I will shower in the PM. But if I shower in the PM, I will still take an AM shower. Also when I change the bed sheets, I take a shower before bed. I really don't care how my hair looks, sometimes I comb it. so that really does not come into play

40. I only run my hot water 3 hours a day. |
|
I have my heater on a timer that turns it on at 4:30 and off at 7:30 PM. We all shower during that period, I go last, around 8:30. The water in the tank stay hot enough for most other things all night, its around 90 degrees at 5:00 AM.
I override the time if its a weekend day, or I need hotter water at another time. My tank comes up to temperature in about 30 minutes.

Go to bed clean, but hate to go to bed with wet hair. As a kid I would shower at night and not wash my hair, then in the morning wash my hair in the kitchen sink and dry it by the woodstove. You all must have extremely easy hair or perhaps real short hair, because after sleeping my hair looks like bride of Frankenstein. I cannot even run my fingers through it.
So now me and dh shower in the morning. It helps me wake up. If I had a grimy, stinky day I shower in the evening but leave my hair in a pony tail. Washing your hair every day isn't good for it, or for mine anyway, but I am guaranteed a bad hair day if I don't wash it before leaving the house. Needless to say I use TONS of conditioner.

|
No matter how I am styling my hair, it looks like I slept standing on my head when I get up
So I shower and wash hair in the a.m.
sometimes I shower again in evening esp if it is Texas HOT and I have been outside a lot.
sometimes I take a long hot soak in the evening
I like the wake up feeling of the shower too.

99% of the time anyway. On the weekends, sometimes in the middle of the day.
I guess because that's when our Mom had us trained to take one, so it just feels more comfortable.

So, Moonbeam...is my freaky family's showering in the morning starting to make you feel like a freak? "Cause you are...but not for that. I understand your reasons (and a few others' reasons) for showering in the PM, and while I may have need to shower then, I am much more comfy doing the whole get ready routine in the morning. Besides, my hair is scary without help in the morning, and the steam from the shower just helps release the weird pillow-induced hair style that I certainly don't want or need to share with the world.
By the way - are you happy I posted to you?

In the morning if I'm going into the office that day, unless it's really cold.
If it's cold, I'd rather do it the evening before, so I don't have to go out in the cold with my hair wet.
In the evening after mountain biking, because I always need a shower after that.
In the morning (or whatever time it is) when I get back from a rave, because dancing the night away tends to make me perspire a bit.

47. I used to be a runner, I'd shower after I ran. |
|
Before I was human (that is, before I met my wife :loveya: ) I was a hard core computer geek. I lived in the university computer lab or in a very simple room with a matress on the floor, a computer on the desk, and my clothes in two boxes -- clean and dirty. I mostly ate my food cold in front of the computer whenever I noticed I was hungry. (Raw spaghetti is crunchy good. My parrot likes it too.)
Whenever I wasn't on the computer I was mostly running or riding my bicycle. Usually I ran about 75 miles a week, and who knows how far I rode my bicycle. When I got back from my outings I'd shower in the university gym. I had a locker there, even when I wasn't actually enrolled. That was pretty handy whenever I happened to be homeless. (It took me nine years to get my Bachelor's degree...)
Now I take showers before I go to bed. My wife told me to, and it's as simple as that.

Thus, one should shower in the morning, so as to be clean at the beginning of the day. On the other hand, one might also shower at night so as to go to bed clean in preparation for any of those other activities.
