Help buying a new TV
I'm searching some websites for info and ... uh ... well ... what's good ? I'm looking for a 32", and will also be buying a DVD or home theatre system. This is for an apartment, and a modest budget.

Bought a home theatre system last spring and the sound has died already (Koss).

Thoughts anyone ??

Thanks !!

:hippie:

1. Go to Costco...they give to Dems.
and when you get there, DON'T buy GE!

That's about the extent of my TV expertise.

2. The Consumer Reports Buyer Guide will be of help.
For a more personal recommendation, I have had excellent luck with Sanyo TVs. I've had mine for 10 years. My parents have had their evevn longer.

3. I'm a TV engineer by trade...if that matters.
I'm a fan of Toshiba TV's. I find that you can get the best picture for the $$$$.

As for the HT......I think the only way to judge a modest system is to choose a reputable manufacurer (Panasonic, Sony, Yamaha) and I'd get the one with the sturdier speaker enclosures. The HT in a box systems that have lightweight plastic speakers sound awful.

6. I agree.
My brother has a Tos that has the best picture I've ever seen and I just bought a HD one and it's lovely. And the price wasn't bad, either. All the people I talked to said the Toshibas are really the way to go.

4. Panasonic's Tau
After much research, I found this had the best picture. Very fine, without grain. Unless the source has it. Like a bad DVD transfer. Lawrence of Arabia came across with cinema quality.

7. I'm a TV Engineer, too.
Panasonic is good. Mitsubishi is good. GE/RCA/Thomson/Proscan/WHATEVER the fuck they call themselves now is PURE SHIT.
Emerson, crap. Zenith, crap. Daewoo, cheap crap.
Sony, OK. Sanyo, OK. Toshiba, no experience, I
defer to XNASA on that one...:-)

Now for the home theatre part of it....no experience. My bro has a Bose. Seems to like it, I think it's over-priced.
