1. Congratulations!
I quit drinking four and one-half years ago, after twenty plus years of addiction. It gets easier! I promise!

Get through it minute by minute. Pray or meditate when you feel desperate.

It will get easier.

Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 01:22 PM by freedom_to_read
I'm 10 months smoke free. Trust me your quality of life is going to improve in the next couple of weeks.

10 things you have to look forward to:

(1) better complexion
(2) whiter teeth
(3) no more smelly clothes
(4) stairs!
(5) extra cash -- no more $6.50 a day tax
(6) no more death rattle, coughing up blobs of crap
(7) things actually have taste and smell
(8) no more bumming smokes, or having to give your last smoke to bums
(9) no more feeling like you can't change your life.

(10) no more worrying about "how am I ever going to quit smoking?"

don't jump, and don't fall off the nico-wagon. hang in there!!

you should be really proud
I'm proud of you. I quit cold turkey about a year ago. I remember being crazy around the start of the second week. I still have dreams that I am smoking and I get so mad at myself in my dreams. It's kind of funny. Eat some chocolate. It always helped me. Alot of times it's just a sensory type thing. Stimulate it with something else. Sugar works well. Good luck. You'll be so glad you quit in another couple of weeks, believe me.

7. Congratulations!
You're going to make it. Eight days is huge. Try not to focus on it (difficult, I know, but try).

Depending on how long you smoked, you will notice a real difference. For one thing, you'll notice how awful people who smoke smell. That was a real wake up call for me - I can't believe I once smelled like that. I can breathe better, I can smell better (with my nose, I mean - we already touched upon the odor issue) and I feel much healthier.

Hang in there. You're doing great! :headbang:

The encouragement is much appreciated.

My wife's sisters and friends are all coming over tomorrow - many of them smokers.

I might hafta go to the movies or something.

8. Day 13 and you are on your way
It still sucks big time but the physical stuff is coming to and end if you are not doing nic replacement. Lay off the booze and coffee if you can that was the trigger for me. I had to quit drinking coffee altogether.
