Rush lyrics that describe Bush/Repub in power
I've been listening to a lot of political music since Bush stole the election. And I"ve been listening to this song over and over again because it really speaks about the bullshit we're going through right now. The song is a Farewell to Kings by Rush. It was written in 1977.
The song is on the album that is also called A Farewell to Kings. I am hopeful fraud will be proven and Kerry will win because Xanadu immediately follows this song. A Farewell to Bush and we are in Xanadu boys and girls.

A Farewell to Kings by Rush. Written in 1977.

When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow
We turned our gaze
From the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down
On the path of least resistance

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise

The hypocrites are slandering
The sacred halls of truth
Ancient nobles showering
Their bitterness on youth
Can’t we find
The minds that made us strong
Can’t we learn
To feel what’s right and wrong

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise
Can’t we raise our eyes
And make a start
Can’t we find the minds
To lead us closer to the heart

1. And more Rush lyrics:
There’s no bread, let them eat cake
There’s no end to what they’ll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth

But they’re marching to bastille day la guillotine will claim
Her bloody prize free the dungeons of the innocent the king
Will kneel, and let his kingdom rise

Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by

And we’re marching to bastille day la guillotine will claim
Her bloody prize sing, o choirs of cacophony the king has
Kneeled, to let his kingdom rise

Lessons taught but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mould was cast

For they marched up to bastille day la guillotine -- claimed
Her bloody prize hear the echoes of the centuries power isn’t
All that money buys

2. I love Rush.
Things like that are awesome. I think they are one of the greatest bands ever.

3. I was just thinking about starting a Rush thread tonight!
They are getting me through these dark Nov. 2nd days like nothing else. Here's another one for ya that I've been listening to over and over again today!

(Why does Rush seem to speak to this time so well? Every song - it's like they predicted it...)

WITCH HUNT

The night is black
Without a moon
The air is thick and still
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torch lit hill

Features distorted in the flickering light
The faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night
The mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right
Confident their ways are best

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill

They say there are strangers who threaten us
In our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness too dangerous
In our theaters and bookstore shelves
That those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves

Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand...

5. You would seem to be a Rush fan based on your username.
Here are some more lyrics for you.

"Between The Wheels"
To live between a rock
And a hard place
In between time-
Cruising in prime time-
Soaking up the cathode rays

To live between the wars
In our time-
Living in real time-
Holding the good time-
Holding on to yesterdays...

You know how that rabbit feels
Going under your speeding wheels
Bright images flashing by
Like windshields towards a fly
Frozen in the fatal climb-
But the wheels of time-
Just pass you by...

Wheels can take you around
Wheels can cut you down

We can go from boom to bust
From dreams to a bowl of dust
We can fall from rockets' red glare
Down to "Brother can you spare-"
Another war-another waste land-
And another lost generation...

It slips between your hands
Like water
This living in real time
A dizzying lifetime
Reeling by on celluloid

Struck between the eyes
By the big-time world
Walking uneasy streets-
Hiding beneath the sheets-
Got to try and fill the void

7. they played this one on the last tour!
They just played Between the Wheels on their past tour a few months ago. It was the first time they played it since that album came out in the late 80s.

8. Some of my favorite Peart lyrics are from Tom Sawyer
Something like: "No, his mind is not for rent; To any god or government; Always hopeful, yet discontent..." (I don't know if it's exact.)

Seems to describe my state of mind lately.

14. Front Row Center
this summer in Pittsburgh. One of the most incredible experiences of my life. A vastly different concert experience than sitting in the "general" section - both better and worse in some ways. I will never forget it. I also was thrown a t-shirt from "Geddy's dryer", which I never wear. :-)

10. One of my favorites
Red Sector A - Rush

All that we can do is just survive
All that we can do to help ourselves is stay alive

Ragged lines of ragged grey
Skeletons, they shuffle away
Shouting guards and smoking guns
Will cut down the unlucky ones

I clutch the wire fence until my fingers bleed
A wound that will not heal
A heart that cannot feel
Hoping that the horror will recede
Hoping that tomorrow we'll all be freed

Sickness to insanity
Prayer to profanity
Days and weeks and months go by
Don't feel the hunger
Too weak to cry

I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate
Are the liberators here?
Do I hope or do I fear?
For my father and my brother, it's too late
But I must help my mother stand up straight

Are we the last ones left alive?
Are we the only human beings to survive?

12. this one was loosly based on escaping a concentration camp
Geddy's grandmother was in concentration camp and survived. this song is loosly based on that. Rush also played this one on their last tour.
