Why do people refer to the word 'fuck' as 'the f bomb'? |

Why should anyone be offended by language? Surely there are a thousand other more important things to get upset about in this world.

11. I went to a Banned Books reading - |
|
someone read a passage from The Cathcher in the Rye, a passage where Holden is looking at graffiti and seeing the word "fuck" everywhere. This was shocking back when the book first came out and I suppose, shocking to some now. I had taken my son to the reading and when this passage was read he had no reaction, since he has rarely heard the F word. So that tells you something about the power of language and symbols.

6. I read a great thing on the sorryeverybody.com |

website to explain the occasional "bad" word in some of the pictures:
In life, we must learn to live with both the sacred and the profane. Both a part of life.
Or something like that, but I loved it.

7. Because They Are Prudes? |
|
Because they are more hung-up on the word itself instead of its meaning and what the writer intends to convey.
Why is "fuck you!" any worse than "f_ck you"? Both say the same thing.
Why is "my boss is a bitch" any worse than "my boss is a b*tch"? Answer: it's not. The meaning is the same... but somehow it become more acceptable if a letter is missing.
You're thinking the same thing... the reader understands the same thing... your ACTUAL meaning is conveyed, but it's okay because you didn't actually say or write the word itself.
Words convey meanings... and "fuck" and "f-ck" convey the same meaning... so what's the dif'?

...I was brought up to think some words were crude and to try and avoid using them as if they were like any other.

10. Because it's traditionally |
|
seen as taboo, although we're so desensitized to it nowadays. However, the "bomb" part prolly makes reference to what happens when the word leaks into civilized life. Like everybody's reaction when Cheney dropped it on the Senate floor.
