Are you Jealous?
On Sunday morning we will be boarding a plane to Miami. Staying overnight in a hotel, and the next morning we will be boarding a ship for a 5 day cruise to Cozemel Mexico...

Big thanks to mom-in-law-radfringe -- she's taking the whole family on a cruise to celebrate her 85th birthday!!! (we just had to pay for plane fare, 1 night in hotel and bring spending money)

3. Hey!!
I'll have you know South Florida is HUGELY blue, and we rely almost entirely on tourism, dammit!
As for the cruise, have fun, but cruises are likewise not my thing. Would rather just stay on an island for a week. And as for the Miami part, well, I already live in Fort Liquordale.

6. I went to Iowa recently.
It went red by only a little over 10,000 votes.

I had to be there, but I spent as little as possible.

I know there are blue areas in all the red states. But if I can do anything at all, I will. I will continue to spend as little as possible in red states, and to let people know about it.

4. well,
it's going to my first trip to Miami, and my first cruise and my first time in/near Mexico

I'm looking forward to it -- beats dodging snow flurries and lugging in wood to keep warm

been to Florida before, Ft. Lauderdale area - that's where mom-in-law-radfringe lives

and my sister lived in Port St. Lucie area for awhile -- went for a visit there when she was there

7. I'm jealous as heck.
Cozumel is one of my very favorite places. I once spent 2 days, straight, snorkeling, right in front of my hotel. I think it was called Sol Cabanas or something like that. There's a really terrific restaurant there that is right next to the ocean, so close you actually get splashed when your eating. Go there for breakfast on a sunny day and watch the fish swimming around.

Make sure you spend $50 on a really old shitty VW (Beetle or Thing, you decide). Drive that fucker to the San Gervasio Ruins, the place is magical. It's located halfway down the main road that cuts East/West across the Island. After your stop you can go to the bar at the end of the road where there's cold beer and hammocks. There are other Mayan ruins on the mainland; Tulum, Chichén Itzá, etc but almost nobody goes to San Gervasio so odds are you'll have it all to yourself. In the past, Mayans would gather there annually to worship the fertility Goddess. There's a small pyramid way back in the woods, you can hike to it and worship her yourself. Make sure to point out to your friends and family all the little birth control containers that people leave there when they decide they want to have children.

Check it out. Don't expect anything grand like Chichén Itzá or Tulum. San Gervasio is actual ruins. If your not into long hikes through woods, don't go. And don't bring the mom-in law if she's not very mobile.

As far as restaurants go, there is an open air rooftop restaurant in San Miguel that serves really great Italian food. It's a little spendy, but absolutely worth it.

There's a pretty cool Reggae bar on the Southern tip of the island, go late with a date. Very romantic.

Have fun!

I wish I could go with you.

10. Carnival cruise
Mom-in-law likes that one. She goes on 2-3 cruises a year and now prefers the ones with more sailing time

last year she went on one abour the same time of year, when she returned home she went in for carpal tunnel surgry, then went on another cruise over Christmas holidays -- and yep - on her return home she was back for carpal tunnel surgry on her other wrist...

can't seem to keep the woman down. To look at her you would think she is in her late 60's-early 70's -- not the 85 she's going to be next week

plays 9 holes of golf, swims, and goes out dancing or exercise classes every day

we wanted to get her a computer for her home so she could e-mail and surf internet easier -- but she nixed that idea -- wants to go to the library and use their computers because it makes her get out of the house...
