Should I buy the 29¢ per lb turkey or the 79¢ per lb turkey |
|
Does it really matter as long as I cook it well?

2. If you are cooking it well done anyway, it probably does not matter. |

If you like your meat rare or medium rare, always get the better (and usually more expensive) cut. BTW, the more expensive one could be more expensive because it is organic??

...Salmonella Garden Farms or something.
And I never cook poultry anything other well-done. I have HIV and it's not a good idea to gamble on food poisoning.

5. Believe me, it matters |

I've cooked many turkeys over the years and essentially you get what you pay for. If you're having company over, I'd definitely get the better bird.

9. Buy the organic free-range turkey for $1.25 per lb |
|
It's really worth it. Tastes MUCH better, in addition to being much safer.
Just get a smaller one than you usually do.

unless it's REALLY called "Samonella Farms!" ;)
As for taste, my personal solution for most culinary dilemmas is butter. Just use a lot of butter, & everything tastes fine. It's Thanksgiving, so you have a good excuse. Just don't tell the folks at the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

18. No...I just made that one up as a generic unheard of brand. |
|
I'd be damn wary of any poultry with a brand name of "Salmonella Farms".

I'd go for the cheaper one, but I know nothing about cooking or turkeys so maybe I'm not the best source for advice.

20. either is fine as long as it doesn't have that nasty fat injection |
|
So get the cheapie and then BRINE it overnight. Guaranteed that it will be delicious. Brining is the secret. really.

I can't get enough calories from a vegetarian diet to maintain my weight and doc pays really close attention to people with HIV who start losing weight they can't afford to lose.

|
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 04:42 PM by Ratty
Place an order with a local butcher for a FRESH, free-range turkey. Pick it up Thanksgiving morning. Course, it may be too late to get your order in now but something to think about for next year. There is an enormous difference. Your tongue won't believe what you're putting in your mouth.
And really, I'm not food snob. I truly eat just about anything. But Butterball is plain gross. Mass-produced turkey boobies injected with water, or something.
