What's your favorite Andy Griffith Show episode?
Saw a post this afternoon about the release of the 1st-season on DVD, got me to thinking...

My favorite has to be when the band was trying to convince the mayor to let them go to Raleigh and play "Stars and Stripes Forever." They stunk to high-heaven, but Andy held a traveling band on some bogus parking fines or whatever, and made them march with them to con the mayor into thinking they've been practicing. Then when the bus pulls out they start playing terrible again... the look on Mayor Pike's face is priceless!

What's your favorite?

1. the one where
The goat ate the dynamite. Classic and hilarous.

That and the pickle one.

Oh, and the later one where Andy and Helen end up going to like 5 different dinners in one night and they all are spaghetti and every one of the hosts tells them that "the secret ingredient is oregano"

Hell, up until Don Knotts left almost all of them are absolutely great.

4. Anything with Ernest T. Bass
is terrific! I also think one of the funniest episodes was when Barney discovers a case in the files still open. Someone punched someone in the nose and the case was never closed. Long story short? Barney ends up getting punched in the nose! :)

12. IT'S ME, IT'S ME.....IT'S EARNEST T. ....
Earnest T espisodes are some of the best, but I also love the one where Barney is reciting his poetry on the phone to the waitress Juanita (while Andy snoops in the background)

I can only remember the end....

... From her head down to her feet
My lovely Juan-NEET!

19. Believe it or not, Ernest T only appeared in 5 episodes.
But they are all at the top of my list. I just remembered the one where he was desparate to get a uniform to impress Romena, and he ends up at the army recruiting office for a physical. Doctor has him stick out his tongue and say, "Ahh, Ernest says "Ahh." Then he looks in his ear, Ernest says, "Ahh" again. Doc tells him don't, Ernest asks, "what do you want me to say?" Doc says, "just hush!" and Ernest says, "Huuuuuush!"

That one, and getting his education. "Canada, Mexico, Lantic Ocean, Old Man Kelsey's Crick, Old Man Kelsey's Woods, Old Man Kelsey's Ocean, Pacific Ocean."

7. "Opie the Bird Man"
A cast favorite as well. I agree with previous poster, Don Knotts was the glue. Show became hokie after he left.

11. Andy & Barney
Barney was the heart of that show. The writers were teaching humanity. You knew how to treat a "Barney" with dignity and respect. I liked that. "Andy" was a good teacher.

Andy supported Kerry!

He was one of my childhood heros and as someone pointed out here early, good lessons were taught on that show

today we get the likes of MY BIG FAT OBNOXIOUS FIANCE!

14. The last one.
Actually, I rarely watched and could barely endure that show. Sorry...I know it was the favorite of many, many people. Maybe it would make a diff if I told you I didn't have a TV back then...but even if I had, I wouldn't have watched it. Bor-ring! And the theme song was quite annoying. Perhaps I just don't like Andy Griffith--didn't like Matlock, either, and I had a TV when it had its first run.

Well, you asked!

;-)

15. Wow. That's tough.
I tend to recall moments on that show more than entire episodes. I still laugh everytime I think of Goober doing his Carey Grant imitation - "Judyjudyjudy." Barney's speeches about life at "The Rock" always get me.

I remember a few though. The one where Opie falls into a rough crowd is great just because Andy is such a great tv dad. The one with the escaped prisoner and Barney deputizes Gomer for help. Anything with the Darlings or Ernest T.
