My schnauzer has been using my office for a bathroom...advice needed |
|
My schnauzer has been using my office for a bathroom ever since we got the kitten. The kitten uses the litter box--I don't know why the schnauzer suddenly changed her behavior. I think it may be an attention thing, since she is insanely jealous of any attention I give the kitten.
I am retraining the schnauzer...taking her out on the leash now. It's worked, and she is again ringing the bells on the doorknob when she wants to go out.
I am left with a lingering, disgusting odor in my office, though, and I need advice on what to use to clean the carpet.
What works best for dog urine odor? I want to clean the carpet tonight. I only have Lowes and Walmart here, so whatever I use needs to be available at one of the two.
Thanks.

2. Where is it available? |

Can I get it at Walmart? As much as I hate going there, I have to do something.
(What are you doing this weekend? :hi: )

She's probably feeling neglected.
Best thing to do is ignore it and just clean up the mess when she's not looking.
Whatever you do, don't scold her. That's just what she's looking for- attention.
Hopefully she'll get over it. In the meantime, just grin and bear it.

8. If you can't find nature's miracle |

try club soda. It also works to remove the smell from pet urine.

put the club soda on, let it sit for a bit, blotted it up and then steam cleaned. I've done this before using a full size steam cleaner (spring and fall cleaning) and a hand held cleaner for indvidual little accidents as thy are discovered.
Also, I would uggest getting a portable black light. You can use it to find urine, saliva and all sorts of bodily fluids. It helps you find areas to clean that you might not be aware need cleaning.

...you can sprinkle baking soda in (assuming its not a dark carpet), let it dry while absorbing the odor, then vacuum it up.
Enzymes break down the odor causing elements, naturally - you can get those at any super Pet Mart thingy, anymore. I think the Nature's Miracle is one of those...
Caveat (sorry): once a dog (or cat) has gone somewhere even once, a precedent has been made - it can be alot harder to dissuade them after that. Can you keep your doggie out of that room for awhile at least - to hopefully break the association??
Also with their ability to smell being a gazillion times better than ours, even if it fades to your satisfaction, don't be surprised if they still smell "bathroom" vibes from there.
Mmm, further clarification: Is the kitty's litter box in the office, too? That might be confusing the Schnauz - after all, that feline can go in here - surely its okay for ME! ;-)
Good Luck! (Adorable dog!)

has marked her spot. "This is mine said the Schnauzer."
Where is the litter box compared to where your Schnauzer is peeing? Hate to say I think your Schnauzer is rebelling against your kitten. How old is your Schnauzer?
What gender is your Schnauzer? What gender is your cat?

She ruled the roost until we got the kitten five weeks ago.
The litterbox is in the bathroom...a bedroom separates the bath and orrice.
