Everyone who hates turkey check-in! |
|
I am not talking about hating Thanksgiving. I just really don't care for turkey all that much. Something about it kind of creeps me out I think it is a texture issue. I much prefer chicken to turkey. Maybe because the meat is much "bigger" on turkey or something. So, I have this thing every Thanksgiving, I always end up eating turkey but sometimes I have to force myself to be polite. Were going to have a ham for Christmas this year dammit, none of this turkey two times in two months bullshit.

Love the rest of the Thanksgiving food...stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc, but can't stand the main course...I'd rather have a nice steak.

4. It has no redeeming qualities except its size. |
|
You could feed a family for awhile on a good sized turkey, IF you had enough gravy and flavoring to make it palatable. Nothing hurtles me back to a meatless diet faster than having to prepare the ol' T-day bird for my traditionalist guests. Lasagna's good...lasagna and cheesecake even better!

At a recent halloween party my best friend ate the cookies without knowing there were pot cookies. It was pretty funny.

9. Count me in the "I don't like turkey" club. |
|
I think it is a texture thing with me also. But, I also don't like the smell. Get this, a few weeks ago my friend had me over for dinner and guess what she served along with dinner, TURKEY SOUP! Bleeech!

12. Hate Turkey....gasp......why its.....unAmerican to hate Turkey |
|
They are our allies and Istanbul is a really nice town and the culture is....oh wait you mean the bird.......:+
Have you tried a Diestl Turkey? They are head and shoulders above your garden variety crappy bird...and at $2.49/Lb. they darn well better be. If've been eating Diestl's for years now and each year they get more expensive and each year they blow everyone's mind...I barbecue in the Weber, basting every 15 minutes for 5-6 hours and to die for!

because my husband doesn't like it (and didn't grow up with Thanksgiving to start with) so we vary the meal from year to year.
This year we're having jambalaya for Thanksgiving and leg of lamb for Christmas.

I don't like turkey very much either--it looks gorgeous, all brown and gorgeous, like it should taste like ham or something, but then when you eat it...Hmm. I always do a bit of turkey and A LOT of the carbs (mac and cheese, stuffing,lasagna/ziti, pie, cake). So I still feel as sleepy as all the tryptophanned out turkey eaters.
I should say it's not unbearably dry until leftovers (My mom makes an awesome turkey if you like the stuff). But you are right about the texture.
What about duck? Is that any good?

22. Dry turkey is usually the result of overcooking. |
|
But if the leftovers get a little dry, just douse 'em with gravy. :)
