I got a visit from the FBI today

About 4:00 this afternoon there came a knock at the door. I looked out the peephole and saw a man holding up a badge. I opened the door and he said, "FBI." I almost crapped my pants. He asked if I was Emily somebody (which I'm not). Asked if I knew anyone by that name, and I said I didn't. He asked if she used to live here, and I said I moved into this apartment in October and didn't know anyone in the building, much less anyone by that name. I told him there were several people living in this apartment before me, but no one by that name, to my knowledge. He thanked me, wrote down my name and visited the neighbors across the hall to scare them to death. I was afraid they didn't like the tenor of some of my IMs with my sister, but perhaps I overestimate my own importance.

1. Report the visit to the FBI. These guys almost always travel in pairs.

This could have been a predator, looking for access and vulnerablility.

your local Field Office and ask if this guy was legit. Badges can and are faked, most Feds usually show their credentials with photo along with their badge.

Told me they'd lived here for 5 months and would be moving out shortly because their lease is up, but they'd never heard of her, either. Very strange.

7. The police visited me periodically at 7:30 am on Saturdays for years

Apparently people who intended to skip parole were giving my address out as theirs. Every three or four months, a pair of cops would be pounding at my door, looking for someone else who'd skipped parole.

After about three years of this, I donated to the Fraternal Order of Police. The visits magically stopped. I haven't been bothered since (about eight years now).

It's been about 3 years now (?) since I got a visit from our friendly neighborhood FIB...I mean FBI.

In my case, it was due to altered Fidonet posts sent anonymously to them.

I show them the real posts, (including a "Crusader Bunnypants" comment,) and he went away.
