1. Groucho Marx once said...
"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside a dog it's too dark to read."

2. anybody know the kid's poem "Chums"
trying to remember who wrote it. Think it goes something like:

"He sits
He begs
He lends a paw
He is, as you can see
The finest dog you ever saw
and he belongs to me.

He follows everywhere I go
even when I swim.
I laugh because he thinks you know
that I belong to him"

Anybody know the author? I loved it when my mom would read it to me a zillion years ago.

4. A dog is a dog,
except when he is facing you. Then he is Mr. Dog.

I remember it from a calendar of some kind.

5. To a dog, it's owner is a friend, a companion...
...to cat, we're "the help." :p

Can't remember where I heard that.

6. We give them...
We give them the time we can spare...
the food we can spare...
the love we can spare...

and in return they give us their all.

It is by far, the best deal that man has ever made.

(I can't remember who said this - I will post if I can find it )

7. "If dogs can't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go..."
Attributed to Mark Twain.

I'll second that! Wherever my dog Smudge goes, I'll gladly follow. If the Diety doesn't let this gentle, loving critter into Paradise, then it's not really paradise.

13. Be the person your dog thinks you are
Saw it on a bumper sticker once.

There's also a poem by Robert Frost that I can't remember right now but he talks about getting older and how the dog he has at that point will be his last dog.

14. From my dear departed Grand-dad
"Jay, you gotta choose your dogs like you choose your women. Just ask yourself: If this thing goes berserk, could it take me?"

God, that man was full of pithy sayings like that.

17. The greatest thing about your dog
is he doesn't mind if you make a fool out of yourself. In fact, he is apt to make a fool out of himself right along with you.

18. I second Fla Judy's response
Fla Judy responded with my favorite quote by Will Rogers, so I'm gonna havta dig deep on this one....let's see...

Hunter S. Thompson
"Dogs fuck the pope, no fault of mine."

Hmmm....if that's the only other dog quote I can think of off-hand, it may be time to visit the pound.
