U2 is on SNL....
Heads up.
The opening skit had a funny line where 'Bush' told Rumsfeld that he refused to take the blame....and he liked that...

2. Whaaaa????
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 11:44 PM by tjdee
Bono is SO not buddy buddy with Bush--he said he'd have lunch with the devil himself if those people in Africa could get the help they need. His only interest in Bush was to forgive third world debt and to fund AIDS projects in Africa.

He was at the Dem convention, let Kerry use their song, sang Sunday Bloody Sunday at the opening of Clinton's library....?? Also Bono is not a Catholic...don't understand the Pope reference.

As for the others...Larry Mullin was seen at an anti-war march in Dublin as well.

8. No, you're kind of right....
He did write an oped I think, asking Bush about Africa...then Bush the next night during the SOTU, said he had allotted monies for that.

I think Bono then was like hey that's great!

Have we GIVEN that money? Uhh.....you know our Bush.

7. His dad was :)
He's got a bit of an interesting background in that way, his dad was Catholic and his mom wasn't. In Ireland at the time it was sort of a big deal. His parents decided to raise the boys Catholic and the girls Protestant...but they had two boys and his dad loved his mom a lot. :)

9. WTF are you talking about??
Vertigo is a very odd song that does not represent the entire new album- check out "Original of the Species" or "City of Blinding light" or "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"

11. No, it's all retreads. It's been like that since Zooropa.
Zooropa was as far out as they got, after that they were following, not leading. This new record follows other trends, it does not create them like The Unforgettable Fire, or Achtung Baby. U2 are over.

I don't understand why that's a bad thing. The songs they make are good in their current format- why does it have to be new or cutting edge? It's just good ol' fashioned rock n' roll

14. Because they can do better.
And did. The spark has gone from U2. It happens to every band. They are no longer creating anything new. Most guitar rock these days is valueless, because it does not create new experiences, only shadows of past glories.

15. But can't you enjoy them for what they are?
I don't know how they can get better. I enjoy their songs. The lyrics are poetry and the acoustics sound great...I just don't understand how you can not like a band because they are perceived to be underachieving..

21. You are mostly correct and it only happened to the Beatles really late
Thus, the break up. They couldn't of been more perfect in many aspects

32. This is true. Most bands, even great ones have a 10-12 year lifespan.
After which, they run dry creatively, and end up regurgitating their own pasts.

The Rolling Stones - 1963-1972
The Beatles - 1962-1970
David Bowie - 1970-1980
U2 - 1980-1993
REM - 1980-1992
The Cure - 1979-1992
Pink Floyd - 1966-1979

10. Hello hello??
Aww now, I think they're still cool.

But, I haven't been in for the long haul. My interest started at Achtung Baby...I went back through their catalog which I enjoy, but my heart is really with Unforgettable Fire onwards.

Diff'rent strokes it takes, diff'rent strokes it takes, diff'rent strokes to move the world!

MMMM.
