Did anyone watch football tonite?
God, I really like Utah especially because they ran the Utah play like five times.

Florida v. FSU was an amazing ballgame too.

I went to high school game today in Lombard -- it was pretty cool. A rich suburban Catholic school versus a real country school. Everyone acted like gentlemen.

I wish everyday life was as fun as football.

5. Rivalries are great because ...
... the season records might as well be swept clean. There is SOOO much emotion involved.

Just look at ailing Ohio St who whooped highly ranked Michigan today!!! NEVER underestimate a rival on rivals day. ESPECIALLY if that rival is already disqualified from bowl competition. The rival game IS their bowl.

BTW, unless anyone didn't hear, the NCAA Div 1-A career receptions mark was broken today by Taylor Stubblefield of PURDUE today. Woohooo ... GO BOILERS!!!!! It was achievement accomplished early in a 63-24 route of in state nemesis Indiana.

I gotta say, historically I haven't had much respect for OSU, but Tressel sure knows how to win games that matter.

9. Wisconsin blew it for the second week in a row !!!

After Michigan choked, they could have recaptured a Rose Bowl bid. Iowa won the day.

Unfortunately, the team playing the BEST at the end of the season (Iowa) will not be going to the Rose Bowl.

After walloping Wisconsin last week, Michigan St CHOKED at Penn St possibly giving renowned freeper coach Joe Paterno another year without having his contract bought out.

Rose - Michigan
Cap One - Iowa
Outback - Wisconsin
Alamo - Ohio St (grrr. I HATE Michigan)
Sun - Purdue or Northwestern
Music City - Purdue or Northwestern
Motor City - Minnesota

anything to keep the team Up North out of the Rose Bowl. and they looked BAD. Iowa is a good team, but damn, not THAT good. and i agree about the spartanns. JoPa needs to fucking retire, hes destroying that team. I long for the big ten to be the powerhouse again, and not the damn PAC10 and ACC

3. Utah is awesome ...
... but I fear they may still get screwed.

Utah is in the top 6, normally this would automatically qualify you for a BCS bid. However there are THREE teams in the top 6 that are NOT conference champions!!!

4 - Cal
5 - Texas
6 - Utah

I expect LITTLE to change after this weeks poll.

There are FOUR BCS bowls and EIGHT BIDS. There are SIX conference champions with automatic bids. 6 + 3 = 9 !!!!!

Which teams are eligible?
The conference champions from the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big XII, Pac 10 and SEC are guaranteed to be in one of the BCS games. Teams from those conferences that have won at least nine regular season games (not including wins in exempt game ... a win vs. a DI-AA team can be counted once every four years) and are ranked among the top 12 in the final BCS standings are eligible. The final standings come out December 7th.

And D-I independent or champion of Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt or WAC will gain a slot in one of the BCS games should that team be ranked sixth or higher in the final BCS standing ... unless more than two teams met this criteria. Should more than two teams be ranked in the top six of the standings, the BCS bowls will have their choice of any two from that group. However, any team ranked No.1 or No. 2 must be selected for the National Championship Game.

What are the qualifications for at-large teams?
Each year there will be two at-large teams selected by the BCS Bowls and, in most years, the BCS Bowls will not be required to select any particular at-large team. These are the exceptions:
1) If two at-large teams are ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the final BCS Standings, they're in the BCS National Championship Game.
2) Any team from a non-BCS conference or an independent institution, which is ranked third through sixth in the final BCS Standings, shall qualify for a berth in one of BCS games unless more than two teams meet this criteria. If one or more teams other than Notre Dame qualify for selection, Notre Dame shall also qualify for the at-large pool provided it's ranked in the top 10 in the final BCS standings or has won at least nine games.
3) The Bowls shall select from those teams that qualify should insufficient slots be available.
4) Inf any at-large slots remain unfilled after satisfying the requirements above, then the team ranked third in the BCS Standings shall automatically fill one at-large slot and shall play in one of the BCS Bowls.

The bottom line is like previous years, it's ALL up to the bowl selection commitees.

I hope that the Fiesta bowl does the correct thing and pick Utah!!!

6. If anyone is getting screwed it is Auburn
I decided I like Auburn in high school because they have the coolest uniforms. (Plus Bo Jackson in those days). Still like them.

If Auburn got the opportunity to play USC they would win. Against OU I am not sure. I think OU tailback is Patterson, but he is the best tailback I have seen since Marshall Faulk. He is amazing. And a true freshman.

16. Yes, Auburn IS getting screwed ...

And you know what, neither USC or Oklahoma have ANY reason to be ranked above Auburn.

Auburn's hope is they can pick up more points and voters after the SEC and Big 12 championships are played.

The solution easiest to implement is the one we've been talking about for EONS. Play the bowls, and THEN pick the two best teams!!! Keep the BCS, thats all great. But pick the TWO best winners from those games to play a national championship a week or two later!!!!

22. I disagree about any college playoffs
The kids really are in college. Many college football playes who are serious students take lighter loads in fall (and really heavy loads in spring) and they need a break. The majority of kids on national championship teams still don't go pro.

It is what it is. Enjoy it as such. If it creates arguments in bars...well we are going to argue anyway.

28. Red herring ...

Any examination of the college BASKETBALL season will reveal football players to have outrageous amounts of studying and leisure time.

The basketball players have games 6 days a week and play almost till midnight in some cases. They'll often play more than one game in more than one city during the week and are virtually ASSURED of missing classes. Their seasons are typically over 23 and often as many as 30 games if you include tournaments.

By contrast, football is played almost exclusively on Saturday. Players RARELY have to miss a class. At MOST a team will have 6 road dates compared to 12-16 for basketball players.

The tournament itself is played thurs-sat dates except the finals. It involves WAY more teams and WAY more players missing classes.

ALL I'm talking about is TWO teams playing a single additional game beyond the 12-13 games they might have already played. Don't give me that "players are too tired" crap. Those guys get 3-5 weeks OFF from games after they play their last regular season event. They should be VERY well healed after that time!!!

The college bowls themselves are ALL played while school is OUT OF SESSION. The LATEST bowl game is played on January third. Most schools restart the second or third week of January.

One last game isn't going to impose on ANY football players academic life. If you're so dammed concerned for them, you should be lobbying for decreasing the number of games in the college basketball season and moving March Madness to June after commencement!!!!

26. ou is beatable! We came damn close (the REAL OSU - cowboys that is)
and his name is Adrian Peterson and he is a stud, as much as it pains me to say it.

Championship game should be Auburn and USC.

And if Utah doesn't get in, they should.......sue, quit and go home, I don't know. It would show the BCS for the money-grubbing sham it is.

How is picking a lower ranked team, doing the correct thing?

Utah would get killed by anybody in the top ten.

23. They would not be undefeated in any BCS conference.
It's Texas that is going to be screwed out of a BCS bowl by Utah. Utah could not stay within four touchdowns of Texas.

29. Yet to be seen ...

When Marshall went undefeated in the MAC, I was not convinced in the slightest. I KNEW the big boys would chew them up and spit them out.

But we've come a LONG way since then. Teams within conferences are reaching parity as well as mid-major conferences coming much higher in regards to their competitiveness with the big conferences.

The Mountain West is probably the best mid-major conference out there. And after all the near misses of past years, I'm convince that Utah is the first mid-major that can compete with a BCS power school.

BTW, Texas had their chance and they blew it. Utah did their job.

BTW, Texas still has one game to play. Utah beat that team (Texas A&M) 41-21 in both teams first game.

So if you can barely eek out a win against A&M, you'll KNOW Utah is more deserving!!!!!
