Anyone ever drank Tab?
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 01:16 AM by Placebo

I know it's been around since like the 1960s and for some reason is still here, but I've never tried it.

What does it taste like exactly? :P

1. I remember it tasting very bad. Bitter, synthetic tasting stuff.
Of course I could be wrong.

It was a real space-age drink.

2. Tastes like bad.
That's the only way I can describe it.

Think of Diet Coke mixed with pig urine. Think of how gross that must be.

Then add mud to it. And you get TAB.

8. Y'know what?
I just saw a 12 cans of Tab in a box in Target just last week. I was *considering* trying it. Tab has been around forever, and supposedly tastes like Lite-Diet-Coke.

3. late 60's I think. Or early 70's at the latest.
Never tried it. I always figured it was the pre-diet coke diet coke, didn't even know it was still around.

5. Yes, and it's been around since long before the 1980s.
It was introduced in 1963.

Before Diet Coke came along (in the early 80s), many of us used to jokingly call Tab "Diet Coke."

Wasn't that bad actually, but not something that made me want to come back for more.

18. If you don't like grapefruit juice...
...there's no appeal in Fresca.

Every once in a great while, I'll have a Fresca if there's one around, but I don't think I'd seek it out.

19. Fresca was passable....Tab was just nasty.
A cold Fresca tasted ALMOST like a 7-up until you hit that saccharine aftertaste.

Edit: I still remember those "Girlwatchers" commercials for Diet Pepsi, - I guess I was about six or seven at the time.

24. It was THE first diet Cola. I remember it well. I liked it a lot, though
I never loved it like I love Diet Coke. It's really been sort of replaced by Diet Coke & Diet Pepsi, etc. I think Tab is maybe not quite as sweet. I didn't know it was being made anymore. Last time I drank it was years ago, and it was made with that other sweetener, not aspartame. That gave Tab a little bit of a bitter or kick kind of taste.

I like Diet Coke better. But I'd go back to Tab if they quit making Diet Coke.

27. I'm one of the few people on the planet that likes it.
To me, it tastes like Coca-cola without sugar and with saccharine. (Diet Coke tastes like new coke tasted - i.e. oversweet and under-flavored.) It's far closer to Mexican or Canadian coke in flavor than to US coke since the re-introduction. I believe it's still around because there are a lot of people who claim to have aspartame issues and for a long time, Tab was the only diet soda without aspartame.

Tab now has aspartame in it, FYI. It also has saccharine, both in small amounts. I know people who can't handle aspartame who can drink Tab. (Now of course, I'm pretty certain that the "aspartame syndrome" is at least partially psychosomatic, but then again, I expect people to use the scientific method, too...)

If you can handle the taste of saccharine, it doesn't taste bad. Not everyone likes saccharine, though.

If it was not a product of Coca-cola, I'd probably still drink it, but as it is, it's on the boycott until further notice list.

It's less fizzy that Diet Coke and much less bitter than Diet Pepsi.

30. One could develop a taste for Tab (and someone mentioned Fresca)
But Tab didn't taste like cola really, it had its own flavor. And Fresca didn't taste like a regular lemon-lime soda either. Haven't had a Tab in many years and was surprised to find out a while back it was still around.

Wow, flashbacks. LOL B-)
