FINALLY: Snow on a day off! |
|
A beautiful morning here on the Coconino Plateau, watching the snowfall outside my window...
Kiko is enjoying it too... he never quite knows what to make of snow. :-)
Cocoa, anyone? :mug:

4. The first snowfall was October 17 |
|
And again a week later... about 4 inches the first time, 6 the next...
Just above freezing now, so very little has accumulated.
No way of knowing how the winter will shape up, but the skiiers and snowboarders should be happy once the AZ SnowBowl opens.

And I'm not hoping for it, either. I'll just imagine your lovely scene instead.

3. I'm having a hot cup of coffee. |
|
But cocoa is nice too. :)
No snow here, and not likely to have any for a while. It snows like crazy up in the mountains, but I have yet to see a white Christmas here (in the Boise area).

6. Coffee is all I have... |
|
(As the resident purveyor of coffee in the Lounge...) I actually fixed coffee because all I have is Hershey's Cocoa, which makes a great cup of hot chocolate, but takes too much work this morning, lol. :-)

Boise is in the valley, surrounded by mountains. The mountains get a ton of snow. I have so far had four Christmases here, and none of them have been white. It snows after Christmas, and sometimes it sticks for a few days, but mostly it melts. My kids have had enough snow to make snowmen only twice in four winters.
We moved here in October of 2000; in July of 2000 we had purchased a brand new snowblower (we're Minnesotans! Of course we had to have a snowblower!). We never once used the snowblower. Last spring, we finally traded it to a friend for a beer fridge (the friend was moving to South Dakota).
In the winter here, it's often cloudy and gray and cold. If there's an inversion, the streets can get icy. Right now, we have bright blue skies and 30s-ish temperatures. We're supposed to have a colder than normal winter this year, so maybe we'll get more snow. A white Christmas would be nice.

I moved to the Seattle area specifically for the weather. It sounds a lot like your Boise weather. I'm hoping for snow here this Christmas as well. But what I love about the snow in Seattle is that (1) it shuts the city down, and (2) it's gone in two days!

And hotter here in the summer. Seattle is a little more temperate; I really like it there.
I thought you might be a Minnesotan when I saw "DFL-er" in your name. :) My husband and I are looking to move back before too much more time passes.

Im never moving back. Love the countryside (especially the MN River valley area around Jordan) and the north country, but can't stand the cold. It's a great place to visit, as far as Im concerned!

20. We can get another snowblower. |
|
We really wanted that beer fridge.
Minnesota is home to me. Born, raised...and almost my entire family (and my husband's) is there. I want my kids raised near their grandparents and cousins. I'm tired of missing family get togethers and feeling isolated from the people we love the most.

Excellent for warming icy cold hands.

9. ZW, where is Coconino Plateau? |
|
I LOVE winter and snow and we dont get NEAR enough of it. 1996 was a fantastic year though we had about 6 blizzards and constantly had 20 inches on the ground. Seriously! Every week there was a blizzard! Almanac predicts alot of snow for the Northeast this year. :bounce:

Part of the grander plateau called the Colorado Plateau, home of the Navajos, Hopis, and the Grand Canyon.
We're in a pine-tree forested, mountainous region, just north of the Mogollon Rim... it's beautiful countryside here. :hi:

It does get into the 80's in the summer, but 50's at night... and winters start early and end late. :-)

10. I'm not being a smart-ass, really, but we still have our air conditioning |
|
on here in south Florida. I envy you having snow and cold weather. I'm so sick of being hot - especially after our year of hurricanes and no power, no water, no A/C.
Every night we check the weather to see if it's going to be cool enough to turn off the air, but so far only one night has been cool enough to sleep without waking up in a pool of sweat.
I know, boo-fu*king-hoo for us.
Tomorrow, we're flying up to D.C. area, where I understand we'll be very cold. I can't wait!
Peace.

It's so warm here - in Alexandria, VA, right across the Potomac from DC - that people are walking around in t-shirts and shorts. It's a long, slow, autumn. We haven't had frost yet, believe it or not.
Pack accordingly. A raincoat, maybe, with a liner, in case it turns quickly, which can happen here.
Safe trip. The foliage here is still quite lovely.
