Stupid Cats
My brother's cat sniffs and studies and examines the litter box for the "perfect" spot... then backs up to the side... and with all four feet in the litter, she poops over the edge.

Then she turns around and scratches the litter and "covers up" absolutely nothing. I guess she doesn't like messy litter either.

5. I've lived with five cats for the last 11 years and they've been the best
roommates I've ever had.

They have their own furniture to scratch, they always use their litter boxes and they give me unlimited, unconditional love.

With cats, as with life, you get what you give. My cats have made my life immeasurably better on many levels and have helped me through many very difficult times.

4. My cat used to do that too.
It was fascinating and frustrating all at once. He was one weird cat.

13. Maybe A Little Tiny Barbed Wire Fence Around The Edge...
or a cactus planter around the perimeter would solve the problem.

7. Your Brother Needs a Litter Box with an 'Igloo' Over It
It prevents the scenario you described, but I still had problems with the males who used the box. Occasionally, they would stand with their backsides toward the opening. Still, it was preferable to having them urinate on the wall behind the box.

15. I bought a "Booda Box"
...an igloo-style box that's large and round (for my large and round kitty Urd), because the other cat ambushes her all the time and she kept peeing on my living room rug. The Booda Box even has a little staircase-like ramp inside, so the kitty can be very secure inside, unambushable.

And what does my lovable Urdie do? She goes in the box to pee, but insists on crapping on the paw-wiping mat in front of it. So I figured it was still a matter of ambush-fear...until I caught her doing it one time. Her *head* was inside the Booda Box, her front feet on the ramp, and she was just happily crapping on the mat.
