Idea for alternative way to spend Thanksgiving

I've seen several posts from DUers anguishing over Thanksgiving. The holiday is a problem for me as well although not for the same reasons. My son, as a result of an major injury, cannot eat solid food so all food-centered holidays are a problem.

This year my little family will spend the day canoing. It should be a great day to enjoy the outdoors. Most people will be otherwise occupied so I anticipate a lovely, private day on the river.

Everyone has my permission to ditch their families (especially to ones that cause you grief), and celebrate the holiday in a way that works for you.
