5. 10 years before I hit the public school system here,

there were prayers in the morning, and the school auditorium was almost universally called the Chapel. Then by the time I showed up it's all venereal diseases and condoms and such. Even in the South, we sometimes make SOME progress. ;-)

I went to an all boys Catholic H.S. (here in Memphis) I did, however, take sex ed in 5th grade and again in 6th grade I believe when I was living in Columbus, OH at the time.

22. Helllllooo? Sex Ed? Hey, when I was in HS, girls couldn't even wear pants.

I think we got a week of "hygiene" and most of that was about trying to scare us with weird diseases and stories about people going NUTS if they tried pot... or "heaven forbid!" LSD.

Yeah, I inhaled. And the acid trip was not a bit like a train ride.

And I liked the sex ed class in the back of a red Firebird... oh yes.

25. It was a unit in health class

In ninth grade. Unfortunately, the teacher was a single, not dating even, young man who seemed to be rather embarassed about it all. It was basically learning about all the parts and process of creating a child as well as venereal diseases. We never were taught about condoms or other birth control. This was in a rural Ohio public school in the 90s.
I already knew about that stuff and more. My sister and I found and watched porn tapes. I also was a very studious type who secretly read some books in the public library that told me everything that I needed to know.

I was never so lucky as a kid. I had to get mine the old-fashioned way - by hanging out with the kids who's creepy dads didn't lock up their libraries. But it DID afford me the opportunity to teach myself how to defeat the macrovision VHS copy-protection scheme. ;-)

I went to a Catholic girls' high school in the 1960s. We didn't have sex education, we had "marriage day".

It consisted of a Catholic priest coming in to tell us not to do anything.

Next up was a Catholic married couple with about 42 children telling us not to do anything.

Then a Catholic obstretrician (note, no mention of gynecology or the need for women to have checkups) telling us not to do anything.

Did I mention this was spring of senior year? And most of us had already done something???

It was totally useless, and we snickered at each other behind our hands. Well, the really religious girls didn't......
