My cats are more spoiled than your cats
Today I cooked them their own batch of chicken-liver pate--unseasoned, just the way they like it.

4. Well, alrighty then. How many cats do you have? More than 9?
Because my wife is a f'ing cat nut and we have that many. They get to do whatever they want and they position themselves in such a way that, at times, it's impossible to sit where you want without experiencing extreme disdain as they take their time moving away. We are about to have a veritable pet cemetery in our back yard as they approach their silver years. They are great and, of course, superior beings; and they should rule the world.

That's enough to take up every seating area in our living room.

10. Being a 'multi-cat' family has it's advantages.
First, you always get asked 'how many cats do you have?' when you buy litter. Since I do that, my standard response is, 'don't ask.' The other advantage is that there is always a little critter awake and willing to be worshiped and pampered!

8. My late cat Squeaks--who lived well beyond what anyone expected--
used to love tailgate food--barbecue chicken wings, pizza, anything with cheese, anything spicy...and McDonald's bacon ranch salads!

I sure miss him. He was the sweetest kitty. Even my cat-hating parents liked him.

I'm lucky I still have two other great boy kitties--though they decided they didn't like their Friskies last night, and tore into the big bag of the prescription food in the basement.

11. As a child I had a couple of cats who placed a dead, bird on top
of a pile of dry cat food when my mother tried to move them from canned to dry food. It's a good thing these guys don't grow to our size. It is our responsibility to know in advance when we might be messing with their very precise wishes at any given moment.

18. My boy Volker liked really weird food, too
Loved fruit, fresh tomatoes, green olives. Once tried to fish olives out of a Martini, in fact. Ate roses, too. I miss that old bear...

9. Mine have an electrically-heated bed.
You might think they're spoiled, but they are actually very considerate -- they allow me to live in the house they own.

12. You make them sleep in their own bed?
Don't you know that humans make the best bed heaters?

15. They can choose.
They prefer the heated bed for daytime naps, but my bed when I'm in it. Did you know, by the way, that when you turn off the lights, a cat in your bed magically grows to the size of a hippopotamus?

13. do you just cook the livers down and mash them?
Cook them in water or chicken broth?

I'd be curious to try it for them.

I usually get my two boys Boars Head Oven Gold roasted turkey breast to have as a snack at night, since I feel guilty for being at work and then at school four nights a week.

They go mad for it.

One boy is 13 or 14, maybe the livers would a good treat. He also loves sardines, but we don't do those too often.

The 2 year old likes junk food: popcorn, toast, cereal, etc.

16. The recipe
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 09:24 PM by spinbaby
Just cook some of the livers in just enough olive oil to keep them from sticking. Put them into the blender with half again as much heavy cream. This is for the cats.

Then sweat some onions in butter, add the rest of the chicken livers, a bit of fresh thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook lightly, add a spash of sherry, and cook until the liquid is cooked off. Put into blender with half again as much heavy cream. Chill. This is for you.

I made chicken liver pate a few years ago.

I'll have to give this a go for those two scoundrels over the holidays.

14. Liver is good as an occasional treat but.....
...it is not healthy as a regular meal for cats.

My Mom and stepdad used to cook liver every day for the cat. They thought it was much healthier than processed cat food which contains ash.

Too much of a good thing (the liver) almost killed the poor kitty.
