The image that I am now using for my sig: it's JD Challenger's "Ghost Dance in the Snow." I don't know much about Challenger, and was wondering if anyone here does.
I like the image in my sig. The painting is available in print form, limited edition 600 in number. I would like to purchase it--something about it is very eerie, and if you know the history of the Sioux ghost dance, the picture makes perfect sense. Here is a larger image, so you can appreciate the details:
I also like his painting "Touched by a Vision," which is also available in print form. Here it is:
So, here are my two questions: 1) What do you think about these two prints?
2) What is the name of the artist who traveled with an American anthropologist, whose name also escapes me, during the 19th century, and painted images of American Indians that were very similar to these? Most of his paintings were of tragic subjects--for instance, an American Indian woman wrapped in a blanket, walking in the snow with a little one beside her. Perhaps he painted removal? Or reservation life? I wish I could remember--I can envision his work, but can't for the life of me remember his name.
Thanks in advance!
