Question for Jewish DU'ers: Ideas of what to get parents for Hanukkah |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 10:25 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
this year? We're having a get-together on Dec. 11th and we're thinking of maybe getting them a Hamsa hanging for their house, but not sure. Any ideas?
Non-Jewish DU'ers, feel free to give ideas as well.

Gift certificates, too. ;)
That's the problem with a hamsa.... it's got to coordinate.

Another idea, especially if your parents are financially comfortable: donate the money you would have spent on a gift to a charity (in their name). Something like a Holocaust Memorial Museum (if you have one in your area) or an organization that helps the homeless/poor in your area (such as a local Jewish Family Services). That's what my husband and I plan on doing with my father. None of us needs more junk, we'd rather help people who need it.
About the Hamsa: Unless some one is overly particular, a religious item always goes, regardless of decor.

8. You're right about the decor sentiment. |

I like the idea of charity (sedekah) as well. We gave them a beautiful sedekah box one year, as a matter of fact.
