Ugh, "Friends" is boring/pedantic/sophomoric/unclever

I watched two episodes of Seinfeld earlier tonight - excellent. Very witty, very funny, very intelligent.

And then an episode of Friends came on. Ugh. I've occasionally found Friends funny (my sister always watches it, so when I'm there, I've had the "privilege" of watching the show), but never very compelling. Joey and that other guy are pretty good together, and tonight's was an episode with Tom Selleck. But overall it's a very lackluster production with not a whole lot of creativity - generic sitcom, perhaps, is how I would put it.

I feel the same way about the original BBC Coupling - trying too hard to be a combination of Friends and Seinfeld and lacking in wit, direction, and acting ability.

My wife watches the show, and I am occasional forced to view this televised rubbish. I could stare at feces floating in a cesspool and find it more entertaining than your average Friends episode. Not to mention better smelling. How did this series become so popular? :evilgrin:

13. I watched one whole episode when it first came out.

And the first thing that hit me was, "holy crap, they're aiming this drek straight at my forehead! Ew. I don't like it -- this is dead-center my demographic and it's painful!"

I think it was the sense of it being an enormous marketing ploy to get me to buy suede trench coats and coffee mugs the size of my head that bugged me. Bugged me so much, in fact, that I really can't make a call on the quality of the show -- the overt and covert marketing they were trying to do distracted me so badly, I don't even remember much about the few episodes I have seen of it.
