Star Trek The Next Generation Is Full of Crap! Crap! I Tell You!!!
And every other story that followed in that time period is also full of crap!! Why do I say this?

Well, in STNG, they have a new invention called the HollowDeck(sp?). The HollowDeck is a computer simulation chamber that allows people to live out any fantasy that they can think of, and such fantasy can feel as real as reality itself.

Now, I can use this HollowDeck to have a fantasy where I throw the pass that wins the Superbowl, and then immediately afterwards, I can have sex with Halle Berry, Pam Anderson, and Britney Spears all at the same time. I can do all of that, and then you expect me to go fight some Borgs? HA!

If such an invention exists, the only thing that humans will be doing is waiting in line to use the HollowDeck, not travel into space.

5. No kidding
Although some of us would insist that the Holodeck be hosed down with Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal soap prior to our use. EWWWW!

6. Don't you get it?
The whole damn show was a holodeck creation!

It was envisioned and created by a rather down trodden, lowly clerk in some goverment office who fancied himself a rather heroic figure...I think his name was Jean-Luc Walter Mitty Picard or something like that.

7. Ah but...
the point is that "in the future" we and all the creatures who join us in the Federation of Planets are sooooo evolved that we don't *need* a holodeck. Life is its own fulfillment - holodecks are for sissies. I mean, just look at the shy dude - Barkley (ooh I had to reach deep into the memory bank for that one!) - who gets all-consumed by the holodeck. Disaster city, I tell ya.

8. We Won't Evolve That Far
We're still aggressive. We're still horny.

11. Scott Adams, in "The Dilbert Future,"
Makes a very good point:

"The holodeck will be the mankind's last invention."

Think about it; once you've got THAT, why bother?

13. Get Serious
People today get addicted to video games. If you give them a chance to live out any fantasy that they want? ...Please.
