I watched "Freaks and Geeks" for the first time.
My local video store has had this on DVD for some time now. I went to rent some stuff this weekend and everything I wanted was either rented out, damaged, or missing. So, I go to rent "Freaks and Geeks" as though I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel or something and I'll be damned if it didn't turn out to be the best TV show I have ever fucking seen. I watch Discs 1-4 this weekend and I can't believe there are only 2 more disc left. TV executives really jumped the shark when they cancelled this show.

1. Always enjoyed that show
It was kind of the tv version of Dazed and Confused but with less drinking.

"The Wonder Years" meets "Dazed and Confused".

2. Wonderful show
Some of the best, most honest writing ever on TV.

If the set includes all the episodes made, including the last few which IIRC were only shown on an NBC cable affiliate, you'll find that though it's a shame the series only went one season, it does have a satisfying conclusion of a sort. At least, I thought it did.

4. The DVD set I am renting...
...has six disc with three or four episodes each. I would actually lose count of how many episodes were on each disc because the show was just so wonderful. I would simply be disappointed when I came to the end of each disc. I'll have to check the box to see if the NBC cable affiliate episodes are included. I don't see any reason they wouldn't be.

7. really?
I was disappointed that Lindsey decided not to go to Ann Arbor at the end. It just seemed to be counter to how her character had been developed.
I still miss those kids. We have been rewatching the DVDs this past week, as well. I just sit there and curse NBC for cancelling it. It was such a beautiful show.

And how about the episode they chose not to air because it was too intense? The one where Kim has Lindsey over for dinner with her completely f-upped family? TV brilliance.

5. There are exactly 18 episodes.
There are 6 discs. And every disc has exactly 3 episodes.

I have it on DVD.

It's one of my favorite shows.

6. I was Lindsey Weir, 10 years later.
Seriously. I was a Mathlete who wanted to fit in with her stoner friends.

Probably the best non-genre TV drama from the last decade, and NBC had to mess it up by playing Schedule Roulette. It's a shame.

8. So would you have gone to Ann Arbor...
...or gone on the road with your stoner friends at the end?

10. I probably would have gone to Ann Arbor.
I never could get into the Dead.

Still...I'm sure there was something that my friends could have suggested that would have made me sneak off the bus.

12. We absolutely *loved* it at our house when it was on.
Hardly ever missed an episode.

I'm considering buying the DVD of the show soon.

Sam reminds me a lot of my little brother who was probably just about that same age in that time period.

13. When I go to the video store tonight...
...to rent the last two discs, I plan to ask them how much the DVD box-set is. This show is definitely something I'd like to own and watch again and again. My God, "The X-Files" didn't even grab me quite as much as this show did--and I loved "The X-Files".

18. Yes - hilarious.
I didn't remember watching it before I got the box, which is weird because I thought I had seen them all.

Funny and poignant. This show gets that balance just right. The funniest thing I've seen so far is when Sam struts down the hall with his feathered hair and disco jumpsuit and it slowly dawns on him how ridiculous he looks. By the time the fat guy holds him up in the air and yells,"Hey, look everybody. It's Disco Ken Doll!" I was on the floor.

17. "State of Grace" was another good show that languished
and then got cancelled.. See it if it's available,, a great portrayal of a Jewish family that moves to the Deep South in the 60's..

Cousin Heschie and Grandma were a hoot..
