What is so odd about that framing? Why wouldn't he fight for his life -- even if he is guilty?

But our system requires us to treat even guilty people with justice. Otherwise, we're animals. And that's true even if the other party behaved like an animal.

7. I share your disgust. They cheapen the life of the woman he murdered. |
|
wonder if she fought for HER life. I hate network news for the way it trivializes and sensationalizes.
Reminds me of something I happened to see, while Mr Fuzz was watching TV. I walked past and noticed CNN reporting that a woman was abducted and thrown in the trunk of a car, at an outdoor mall in broad daylight, with loads of people around. No one did a damn thing. It was caught on the surveillance cameras. She is running all over the place screaming for help, as this guy runs after her and catches her, slings her over his shoulder, sticks her in the trunk and then speeds away.
The goddamned pig guy reporting is narrating with a breathless voice worthy of "Monster Trucks!!!". He is absolutely THRILLED at the balls on the guy, "WOWWWWWWWWWW!! THAT'S BRAZEN!!!!!!!!!!!!"
god!!! do you have any idea of what I want to do to men who think the adbuction of young women--- (and probably murder, the girl is probably dead by now, or sent off to white slavery somewhere; yes thats a huge huge business, the abduction of young women forced into the sex trade)----is an exciting diversion? :nuke:

I saw that abduction on tv as well.. I just don't understand people anymore..
I once directed traffic on US Highway 47 in the RAIN ..to rescue an Irish Setter that was running loose on the highway..and yet people watched a young woman get kidnapped and did nothing:grr:

I once stopped on the highway when I saw something very wierd happening. These men had stopped their car and two were running around in the grass chasing her. I pulled over and stopped in front of the car, leaning on my horn. No one else stopped. I was afraid to get out, of course, but I kept the horn blasting. They caught her and tugged her back in the car. I watched as hard as I could to read her facial expression--I figured she would give me some kind of look, but she didn't. She seemed numb. Then they drove away.
This was in the days before cell phones. I was shaken myself and didn't think to take down the license plate or to stop at the first phone. I have never forgiven myself for dropping the ball that way.
I've stopped abusive mothers in stores before. I've confronted men verbally mistreating women in public places. I've made loud public scenes when merchants have tried to rip off my Deaf hunny. I know I would have chased after them in that mall, screaming as loud as I could, and I'm just a little 47 year old woman.

FizzFuzz - I'm really sorry you are haunted by that. I can't imagine how hard that must be for you.
Everyone can talk big about what they would do in a situation, but until they are faced with it, they just can't know.

yeah, I hate it when it comes to mind. I did what I could but am afraid it wasn't enough. I'll never know.....
We do what we can when we can, but we can't do it all right, all the time.
Thanks for your good thoughts :)

She was attacked and killed on a Queens, NYC street while pretty much the whole neighborhood just watched out of their windows

9. I am so sick of this damn case |
|
I live in the Bay Area and that's been standard issue EVERY NIGHT on the news for two years now. "The latest developments in the Laci Peterson case!" The online version of the local paper has a special section devoted to it. People I know were going to the courthouse hoping to get seats as if it were some kind of sporting event.
I'm sick of it. It was a horrible thing but not in the least unusual - women are killed every single day by their husbands and boyfriends. I forget what the statistic is but it's mind boggling how often it happens. Yet the ones that get the national media attention are overwhelmingly the rich, white suburban families - at the same time that Laci disappeared, a young Hispanic woman in SF did too, along with her 6 year old son. The police suspected the boyfriend but almost nothing was ever heard of that case. I don't know if they ever found her body or the boyfriend. Or the son. It was like she dropped off the face of the earth.
The media grabs these stories and turns them into soap operas. People who never even knew these people are emotionally devastated by its every twist and turn. Yet it does nothing in any way to solve the problems of domestic violence. It's voyeurism, pure and simple. It's obscene and the end result is that a scumbucket like Peterson becomes a national celebrity. :puke:
What a crazy world this is!

10. It's always about "cute" people |
|
Had Laci been a 40 yr old frumpy housewife, it would have been a 1" article on page C-10..and maybe a mention during the local news..
There are actually people out here in "viewer-land" who think Scott is cute, so he must be innocent..:puke:
