An early double reed (precursor to the bassoon). Apparently justified its name.

I also like the Serpent, a primitive tuba shaped like an actual snake. Some versions even had fangs!

I was a professional basson player for 13 years. loads of fun.

But I knew a trombone player once....
he was playing a solo originally written for bassoon and asked my advice on it. His first question "who is this composer named Faggott?"
